No man knows the day or the hour, so be patient. He will come, and sit, and reign in Jerusalem. He will govern the whole earth. You will be convinced cause your own eyes will see him

ALL POWER IN HEAVEN AN EARTH HAS BEEN GIVEN UNTO THE LORD JESUS

I dunno, after a while we have to be able to say "okay, Jesus isn't coming back". I mean, there has to be a deadline. If there are Christians 10,000 years from now still convinced that Jesus is gonna come around someday, I'll have to laugh (but I won't be able to, since I'll be long dead and my brain will have decayed into nothingness).

Fortunately, right in the Bible there is a deadline for when we should stop waiting for Jesus' return. It's true that he says we won't know the exact time, but he does give us clues so we can narrow down around when he was supposed to come back:

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." -- Matthew16:28

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." -- Luke 9:27

"Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation." -- Matthew 23:36

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." -- Matthew 24:34

"Nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." -- Matthew 26:64

"Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." -- Mark 9:1

"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." -- Mark 13:30

"And ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." -- Mark 14:62

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled." -- Luke 21:32

"Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" -- John 21:22

Now, either there are some people still alive that Jesus talked to, or the Bible is fiction. And I'm willing to bet there isn't anybody around from first century Judaea.

Ever heard of left behind? Bad movie with Kirk Cameron?

You're bringing up scripture that applies to those that are alive when he comes. He's implying that there will be some that have not died in the flesh that will see him come. However, most people will only see him after they die.

No one knows when he is coming. Ever heard of Harold Camping? Huge religious following. Radio Stations and all. He put out a book that said jesus was coming in October of 1994. What happened to his prophecy? Don't follow religion, follow the word of God.

Yeah, and I have no intention of watching it.

Err, no, I couldn't find anything that implied that when I read those verses. Jesus doesn't say he's talking to people in the future. He's talking to the people in front of him, and uses the word "you" to address them. Take a closer look:
    http://jcnot4me.com/Items/theology/S...e_by_verse.htm

But I understand you don't want to give up your whole religion just because this part of the Bible contradicts reality, so I can understand why you would want to rationalize a different meaning into that verse.

How can I follow the word of God when he refuses to answer my questions with anything but silence?

I don't think Jesus is going to show.

If you were waiting for a girl to call you how long would you wait? An hour? Two? Maybe a week...

    But 2006 years?

Come on man, he's not showing up now. The prophecies in The Bible are nothing more than a series of elaborate excuses. Face it. He's with somebody else.

    Oneironaut,

I'm not gonna get into a debate over your interpretation of scripture, cause I know that the timing of the kingdom of God is consistent throughout his word. He gives us the events that will take place, they are not yet fulfilled. You can call him a liar all you want, but that verse will be fulfilled when those that it applies to, see him come. The bottom line is that nothing he says is untrue, and you're putting yourself in a tough spot trying to question his authority. No matter what you say, he exists. Always did, always will. Peace

My conclusion: organized religion is a waste of time. Go paint a picture or build a house, it'll do more for you than the belief in God.
