dont want any newb answers to my Q
Based on experience and reliable sources is there any problem with pruning (cutting fan leaves off)?
imo if the leaf is blocking light to branch growth it would be more benefitial to cut it. and if its not getting any light then its useless and just wasting the plants energy to keep it alive.

No.. plants don't waste energy.. they use whatever they can get. Cutting the leaf off may open up a lower section for more light, yes.. but it will stress the plant to cut parts of it off..
If you do decide to prune fan leaves off.. do one at a time.. every few days.. never cut more than 2 fan leaves off in a day.. as it really is unnecessary.
What do you think the plant uses to catch that energy from the light??
The Fan leaves..
Try tucking.. and tying.. you can manipulate the growth of the plant just as well and not worry about cutting parts of it off before it's time to.
Hope this helps,
Bob.

If you want more light to the lower parts ad some side lighting. Tuck them back out of the way but the plant still needs them. They store food in the fan leafs and the fan leafs are used to regulate the internal temperature of the plant. They do play a very important part in the over all health of the plant.
Sorry but your conclusions are wrong about how beneficial fan leafs are.
The choice is yours.
The only time its ok to cut them off is the last 5 day's before harvest by this time the plant is done and you are just waiting for the Trichomes to finish.

I find it;s best not to trim fan leaves at all, especially if they are healthy and green. The only time I find to remove a fan leaf is when it is dead and is no longer useful, other than that, nah.
Like people have said, it stresses out the plant. Also, during flowering, the plant uses its stored energy that are within the fan leaves to create buds. Less fan leaves=less energy for buds which can = less yeild.
BobBong is right, tie or tuck the leaf/leaves instead
Be nicer next time. We are all learning in one form or another, and to single out one another is not respectful because after all, you're a newb too.

Sheesh, what's up with the undercurrent of hostility? Smoke some pot, people!
I don't tend to cut off fan leaves, if there is any way I can avoid it, which there almost always is. Occasionally, later in flowering, I will remove some mongo fan leaves if they're seriously preventing light from reaching another plant, but mostly I just let them fall off on their own schedule, and that's always worked pretty well for me.
