That's fairly accurate, it's electromagnetic waves at 2450Mhz, and the water molecules are actually spinning, and creating heat in the process. Though hotdogs actually explode because water expands as it turns into a gas, the pressure builds up, and bursts the hotdog's casing. But yeah, basically the same thing.
