    Clones, lights and Ferts

Hey guys, me and my dads buddy have just built my new grow cab, i cant remember the deminsions as of right now but its roughly 6ft x 5ft x 2ft deep. I have 2 chambers, a veg chamber with a 250w MH, and a flower chamber with a 400w HPS. The cab is home made and were venting it into the garage and setting up all the fans tomorrow. One of my relatives is getting a 215 card sometime this week and we are going to pick up some clones from a local club. This brings about my first question: Will my clones adapt well to a 250w MH on 18/6? Also, should I stick them in rockwool or just put them in the potted soil? Now that ive got all that said, im using miracle grow for the soil but I don't really know what ferts to choose.. If memory serves right, you have 2 different ferts.. one for bloom and one for veg, I was thinking the foxfarm line. that about sums it up, any help is appreciated. thanks

    Rockwool vs. Soil.
    Whichever floats your boat.

    Clone adaptation to 250W MH @ 18/6...
    It's a weed... it'll survive.

    As to ferts...
It is just my opinion, but I wouldn't use Miracle Grow.
I know Garden Knowm (and others) have grown successfully (and very good) using Miracle Grow, so my suggestion is just an opinion.

Nutrients.... there's lots of products out there.
Yeap, depending on your mix of them, you're either veggin' or flowering.

i'm using mg with excellent results; the important thing is the ratio.

i use 24-8-16 all purpose plant food for veg and cease feeding 1 week before flower.

4 days into flower, i feed with MG 15-30-15 all purpose plant food.

just make sure that if you use miracle gro, you are getting the right kind(if you can't use it on garden vegetables, you don't want to use it on something you smoke) key words to look for are "ALL PURPOSE PLANT FOOD''

hope this helps, keep us updated!

thanks for all the helpful reply's much appreciated. Im gunna go pick up some foxfarm ferts from the hydro store today and im soooo anxious to get this thing setup and get my clones so I can finally start! Oh yeah and another question: can I plant my clones in a big pot so that I don't have to transplant them when they get bigger etc..?

I talked to an experienced grower today and he said my lights would be way overkill on the space available in the cab, refer to the first post for the dimensions/wattage. Thanks

1st, too much is never enough.

2nd, you don't give dimensions to your chambers.
We know it's 6x5x2... but how is it divided?
What's the dimensions of the flower chamber?
    Veg chamber?

I would think 250 for veg is overkill because of the fact that I kept a couple of mothers alive with much less light in fluorescents.
So, it isn't "overkill", but... you can do it with less. (the veg state for mothers)
    But hey, 250 sounds great!

    RE: Flowering OverKill

    Bullshit, IMHO.

Look, I had a cab that was 20inches deep, by 40 inches wide.
It worked out to something along 5.5 square feet.

    Fine, in those 5.5 sq.ft., I had 1,000 watts. 400MH and 600HPS inside a cool tube.
That works out to aprox 182 watts/sq.ft.

Taking the biggest possible measurement for your cab, its base's area is:::
    6ft x 5ft = 30 sq.ft.

And having 400HPS, that would work out into:::
    13.3 watts/sq.ft.

Your experienced grower friend... well... I don't think he's growing Cannabis Cup winning buds there. No insult intended.

    Hope this helps man....

The only time I've ever heard an experienced grower say "too much light" is Zandor refering to the use of a freaking 2,000 watt HID system for growing.
I believe he said it'll "wash out" the plants. I might be wrong. As usual. :stoned:

    Anyways, hope this helps.
    Overkill?
    Nope.
    Myth Busted.

    Happy growing!

Sorry, totally forgot to put those up, its split almost directly in half, so 2 and a half or so feet per chamber.

Ok, yeah I was really stoned when I came home and he was there telling me some stuff, I figured so much about that. It's just that the fixtures are fucking HUGE industrial ones about 23'' and wow, they take up ALOT of space, I might have to expand the cab all the way to the ceiling of the closet. but I have 2 direct vents venting into the garage soon to be accompanied by a few fans today. im not going to use mg fert only the soil, unless I can find better for not too much money. Thanks guys~~

You're looking at it the wrong way....

    Expand the cabinet?

    Why not.... modify the fixture?
    Do you own a Dremel?

God created Earth in 7 days... it would have taken 3 if he had used a Dremel...

Haha, nice one turtle, anyways. Ill try and get some pics, there are big bad mothafuckas not something a dremel could really "shorten", the ballasts are attached to the top. It wasnt my idea, but I told him I need ballasts and fixtures and these ended up being what I got.

Oh here, I found a pic of basically what it looks like, remember 23" and heavy:
