    refrigerator grow

just an idle idea, thought i'd throw it out there for scrutiny...

a fridge has preexisting lighting which could be rewired and replaced for a good grow bulb.

temp control is the most obvious advantage, fully adjustable ac.

pwr usage is the second most serious drawback, next to ventilation

that's where the biggest dilema comes in, how could i create proper ventilation? does a fridges ac generate air flow? how much?

i'll probably go hunting for a garage sale mini fridge that could hold a single plant and just start experimenting, cutting holes, etc...

    what do u guys think?

Well with adequate venting/airflow and a hot light, the fridge wouldn't be able to compensate for temperature and probably burn out its motor.

theres no way the refrigerator would keep up and it would die trying to as mentioned above by phytokind, but if you bought a non working fridge and gutted it and added a small hps and enough ventilation you could have a growbox that looks like a refrigerator, temperature inside the refrigerator would be mostly dependent on the temperature of the room it was setting in.

I've seen a fridge converted into a growcab somewhere. I think the damn thing was on Ebay. Anyway, I've also read several threads where people have asked about this, and it seems the concensus is that a fridge's motor is not designed to be working that hard, so it won't work for long. Its like turning your A/C to high and then opening all the windows on a 35 degree day. You'd be searching the phone directory for A/C repairmen.

It would work as a cab, and it would be relatively stealth too, if it was off!

I HAVE CONVERTED AN OLD FREEZER BOX INTO MY BABY ROOM. WIRED PLUGS INTO THE UPPER SHELVES, FILLED IT WITH CFL'S, CUT A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM AND SCREENED IT.AND WA LA. THE FAN ALWAYS MOVES AIR, AND A THERMOSTAT BRINGS IN COOL AIR IF IT GETS TOO WARM. WORKS WONDERS.
