I don't know anyone well who's a sex-offender, but I did meet a young man a few years ago through a friend of my son and later heard the young man, who was 19 or 20, was arrested for sex with a 15-year-old, which made him a sex offender despite the fact that it was consensual. That was an example of both bad judgement and bad luck. Now, despite the fact that his circumstances are different from a personal standpoint, he's classified in the same category with rapists and pedophiles legally.

I think you have to determine your response to the alleged offenses depending on the true nature of the crime. You won't find me socializing with rapists or pedophiles. But I would still be cordial to the young man in this circumstance.
