I never said that. For all I know, maybe the matter and energy in the universe has existed forever. Maybe it came from nothing. But whatever happened, I have no evidence to suggest that the universe came from a supersmart superpowerful sky wizard, whose origins are no less mysterious than the origins of the universe itself.

No, it makes us free to define the purpose of our own lives. We're not just pawns in a giant chess game, just toys of the magical sky wizard or characters acting out the scripted lines of the divine plan. Atheism gives us the freedom to make our own lives mean whatever we want them to mean, not whatever the gods designed it to mean.

Three thousand years?! Wow, that's news to me! Care to tell me where you got that information. I was under the impression that we had at least another 3 billion years before the sun expands and life is extinguished.

Face it, everything is temporary. Life is temporary. You and I are temporary. The world is in a constant state of change, and nothing can last forever, no matter how much it fantasizes about immortality.

That's not how I think at all. Just because I'm not a slave to the purpose forced upon me by some cosmic dictator does not mean my life is pointless. It means I get to live for what I want to live for. I don't live for some barbaric ancient text, or some invisible wizard in the sky, or some imagined state of blissful immortality. I live for me, I live for my species and I live for life.

Just because life is temporary doesn't mean it's pointless. It just means that the meaning of your life exists in the present but won't exist indefinitely into the future. But you don't need to worry about that, because you're only ever going to experience the time you're alive and your life will have meaning as long as you assign meaning to it.

Well actually that sounds decent. I have a theory that goes like this...

It is very likely that during the paleolithic era and perhaps before...that man used to starve themselves as a way of dealing with depression or bad emotion (like how emo people cut themselves)...and it is likely that God created marijuana to help heal the mental pain and also is used as a way to communicate with man telling him/her to eat and to feel better. its as if God wants to make our existance as good as possible on this earth that he has created for us. And if you think about it....only society and humans are the cause of depression.

Show it to me already! If you can give me a good argument why it must exist, or better yet some concrete evidence, that would be great, but I'm just not seeing anything like that.

I can't just make myself believe in gods any more than I can just suddenly make myself believe in leprechauns. I'd have to see some conclusive evidence that leprechauns exist before my brain will accept as true the idea that they do in fact exist. My brain has this funny thing called rationality where ideas aren't accepted as true unless there's good evidence to believe that they are true.

So, where's the evidence of this god? How did you detect the existence of this god? What properties can we say this god has, based on the available evidence? Which god is it, and which gods is it not?

let me tell you something, you believe that other planets exist. You KNOW other planets exists. you have never seen mars or pluto, yet you KNOW they exist. Because you have been raised all your life by people KNOWING they exist.

This is the same idea just on a much more complex level. I know God exists because ive died and ive been in hell. You can say that it was a slight subconcious thing showing me what happened. But i was turtured in hell for what seemed like two eternities before the docters brought me back to life. I HAVE seen the other side, that IS my concrete evidence. who knows maybe you should be beat with a metal bat and hopefully revived after you die like i was and find out for yourself.

Are there pictures of god or godrocks that they let you touch at the museum? Have you ever looked through a telescope and seen god? I'm going to have to call bullshit on you're dying story too. I dont really believe in god because I know why people believe in God in the first place. once you see the fact that there is a definate HUMAN longing for a higher power, you will see that the arguments by HUMANS are biased and unscientific and science is the closest thing we have to the truth. And if there is a god, then I guess I'm fucked.
