    Co$t of running lights

I am thinking about getting a med. sized sea of green started up, but i am worried about the cost of my lights telling on me. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of how much a 400w hps light cost to run 12/12? And maybe a 1000w mvh 24/7? I am just trying to make sure i have all my bases covered before i get in too deep. And to see if i am going to need a secondary power source.

I dont know how much elect is per KwH but thats how the company meters it to you. It is probably ~$0.30/KwH (Kilowatt Hour.) Check your elec bill and it will tell you the cost. Anyways.. Watt * Hour * cost-per-hour = how much it will cost. so:
    400*12*cost and 1000*24*cost.

Cool, thanks for the info. You wouldn't know a way to get one up on the power company so they couldn't tell i was using so much juice would you?haha Yeah your right that is an allrightname. Bloom on.

That's not enough power to be worried about, as long as you pay your bills in a timely manner. My computer, which is on 24/7, eats 450 watts all by itself. A microwave or hair dryer eats more energy than a 1000 watt light. No need to get paranoid on account of that much electrical useage. I wouldn't go beyond two 1k lights though, unless it's a rental house and you aren't running much of anything else. And again, be sure your bills are paid promptly. That's probably THE most important thing, as delinquent payments immediately draw attention to you from the electric company.

not sure what mvh stands for but you do not want to buy a mercury vapor light either metal halide mh or high pressure soduim hps
and generally you run a higher wattage light for flowering or atleast one of the same size.

Can you explain why you want to use 400w for flowering and 1000w for veg?

sure i can explain. the 1000w mh (thanks for the correction) for my veg. room for my mama plants along with a few rows of floro's for clones. but the 400w hps are for the bloom room, i will be using like 4 of them and maybe a 1000w hps just to help out a little. this will be my first solo design, build and grow project. unless you got any input for me im gona try it this way.
