You should be able to tell if they're girls within the week probably, look for pistils.
If they start growing balls, chop em down before they are able to mature enought to release pollen, that'll spell SEEDS if you have any girls in with the males.

3 of the plants have white hairs coming out of them are these female preflower's???

The white hairs are pistals/preflowering females. The males will develope very distinctive set of 3 "balls"...don't second guess them. Remove them!

I dont see why people dont top their plants, makes it grow thicker and nicer, and if you top it, the sex will become apparent much sooner than if you wait for flowering. Better turn out, and less time wasted if its male.

I wouldn't top my plants if i was you. Topping isn't such a good idea as everyone thinks it is. L.S.T is alot better in my opinion. Why cut off the main growing tip of your plant JUST to make the two growing tips below it catch up to the top of the plant? when you can train them using some string. You see the problem is people think that cutting off the main growing tip makes the plant grow more big colas when infact the plant doesn't grow anymore branches at all, it just force the lower branches to catch up to the top of the plant. If i was you, i'd have a search for L.S.T (Low Stress Training) its pretty simple to do, if you do your reasearch. Why CUT your plants when there are such better alternatives.
