Grinders

I usually Smoke with some friends of mine one who happens to own a battery operated grinder. Now when I smoke alone I do not have the privledge of owning a grinder. Is there a good way to grind up weed w/o owning a grinder. I would assume knife/scissors but are there any other ways. I might just go and invest in a grinder this weekend
