Red stems I found are nothing to be alarmed about.

There is a macro setting on your camera, the little flower like icon. Put that setting on when you take a closeup. All digi cams have a close up setting, usually, unless it's ancient. Notice how the background and floor are in focus and the plant isn't? Because it's the wrong setting.
