We are losing the War on Terrorism

And if Congress did want to declare war, who would they even declare war on? Declarations of war have traditionally always been against sovereign nations, but there is no nation called 'Terrorism'. And if you name a specific *person* as that target in a declaration of war (Osama, for example), then if we kill Osama, would the 'war' be over? Of course not, as his number 2 would step into the leadership position and things would continue.

Also, when you are fighting a war, you have a set of realistically achievable victory conditions, and when those goals have been accomplished, the war is over, you won, and your soldiers go home. In this 'war on terror', what are those victory conditions? That no one left alive in the world will hate the Western way of life enough to perpetrate violence upon it? That's obviously not realistic. And yet...is that not our apparent goal? If so, then A) we are going about it the wrong way (more people hate us now than ever); and B) our soldiers will *never* get to come home because our goals are too unrealistic to ever come to fruition, no matter how long we wage this 'war'.
Most excellent post. Whenever the Government starts throwing around the 'War on.." catchphrase, it always means a war on it's own citizens. i.e.... you and me
Hamlet Reviewed by Hamlet on . We are losing the War on Terrorism I was watching the news this morning when I saw a story about the Pope apologizing for his recent speech which had angered Muslims around the world. The Pope apologizing for anything is pretty big news and it made me think "why this time?". Is he a kinder, gentler Pope? Or, did it less to do with the fact that he made some imprpoer comments and more to do with just who it was that he upset? The simpleton currently residing in the White House would have us believe we are winning the war on Rating: 5

The pope reffering to a time when muslims were massacred for being non-christian was pretty stupid, I'm sure the muslims feel the same about that as jews do about hitler.

Not something you should quote if you don't want to piss off Muslims and certainly not a time Christians should be proud of.

As for Vietnam , that was never going to end well for the US, do they never learn that fighting a determined enemy on their own turf is looking for a kicking.
Afghanistan and Iraq will cost bigtime and anyone who thinks it's a smart move to occupy any country is imo dumb as fuck.
As for who started the war just take a good look at the history of deception and manipulation carried out by the west and maybe you will start to understand why the rest of the world is just a little bit pissed at Europe and most of all the US.

I don't know, what would you call a knock down drag out between Catholics and Muslims? "Crusades II: The Papal Instigation." I'd be in favor of arming militant Catholic clergy, only because I don't want to live in a world where Muslim culture wins... you know, that beheading in the public square, routine justice bull shit.
