    Sorry Guys and Gals but,
    I am Beyond pissed.................
I met the Big Man, aka the Kid from Brooklyn, at our Atlantic Antics street fair the other day - it is huge and over a million people visit. I picked up some of his merchandise - shirt, pens, etc. And, it was hot on Sunday!

He had a table, and was meeting his fans. Heā??s a really nice guy. What it does not say in the video is that this area is predominantly Arab (potential terrorists have been arrested around there in the past) and some had booths that were even giving out free Korans, and other literature. I don't think any of them had a word to say to him. This is a man with guts.

We are losing the War on Terrorism I was watching the news this morning when I saw a story about the Pope apologizing for his recent speech which had angered Muslims around the world. The Pope apologizing for anything is pretty big news and it made me think "why this time?". Is he a kinder, gentler Pope? Or, did it less to do with the fact that he made some imprpoer comments and more to do with just who it was that he upset? So who's this guy? He's not known down in these parts.

OK, I see now that I saw that last clip. A sort of local color "character" who's becoming reknowned in his own unique way . . . .

We are losing the War on Terrorism

I don't really like the phrase "war on terror", or "war on drugs" for that matter. Only Congress can declare war, and it hasn't, not on 'terrorists' nor on 'drugs'. So these aren't wars we're fighting, and I wish people would stop using that label. Skirmishes, battles, conflicts, okay, whatever, but not wars.

And if Congress did want to declare war, who would they even declare war on? Declarations of war have traditionally always been against sovereign nations, but there is no nation called 'Terrorism'. And if you name a specific *person* as that target in a declaration of war (Osama, for example), then if we kill Osama, would the 'war' be over? Of course not, as his number 2 would step into the leadership position and things would continue.

Also, when you are fighting a war, you have a set of realistically achievable victory conditions, and when those goals have been accomplished, the war is over, you won, and your soldiers go home. In this 'war on terror', what are those victory conditions? That no one left alive in the world will hate the Western way of life enough to perpetrate violence upon it? That's obviously not realistic. And yet...is that not our apparent goal? If so, then A) we are going about it the wrong way (more people hate us now than ever); and B) our soldiers will *never* get to come home because our goals are too unrealistic to ever come to fruition, no matter how long we wage this 'war'.

The simpleton currently residing in the White House would have us believe we are winning the war on terror. We are killing insurgents in Iraq by the thousands, have destroyed Al Qaeda's infrastructure, and everytime we turn around we seem to be catching the #2 guy in Al Qaeda. But what Dubya's feeble mind fails to grasp is this is not a war of attrition. Even if it was we'd probably not be winning. Bush's foriegn policy will ensure Al Qaeda has a steady stream of pissed of young Muslim's ready to blow themselves up in the name of Allah. The reality is that this is a war of attitudes and beliefs. And, we are losing!

The recent worldwide sensitivity to Muslim's is proof that we are losing the war on terror. Would the Pope have apologized if he pissed off Buddhists, or Hindu's, or Mormons? My guess is no. Why not? Well, first of all most other religions/ cutures would have just responded with their version of "fuck you" and that would have been the end of it. Not the Muslims, however, who have no problem with blowing up ancient Buddhist statues, burning American (or any other country their pissed at) flags, or effigies of the Pope, but simply can't take any negativity towards their own religion. Secondly, and more importantly, I'm sure he wouldn't have to worry about too many pissed off Buddhist flying a plane into the Vatican.

It's not just the Pope's apology. There's proof everywhere that we are losing. Everytime any non-Muslims condemn cartoons of Mohamed, the terrorists have scored a victory. Everytime a British bank stops giving out piggy banks for fear they may offend the local Muslims, the terrorists have scored a victory. Everytime a school in Minnesota considers getting rid of it's art program because drawing images of people could upset the local Muslim community, the terrorists have scored a victory. And, each one of these victories is far more important in this war than any victory we may have in Iraq or Afghanistan.

It makes me wonder, "what's next?" Will all pork products soon be outlawed for fear of offending Muslims. Will my wife and daughter soon have to wear head scarves so they don't offend them. Forget low rise pants and short, belly bearing, shirts. It's burkahs for all!!

I for one, say "Fuck that!!" If the Muslims can dish it out they can take it too. Did the cartoon offend you? Too fucking bad! Deal with it! Did the Pope piss you off? So fucking what? He pisses me off too but you don't see me strapping a bomb on and walking into the closest Sunday mass. If my local bank stops giving out piggy banks I'm taking my business elsewhere. And, anytime I see an example of this new sensitivity aimed strictly at Muslims I'm going to speak out against it. I urge everyone to do the same.
I agree culturally, but we're winnin' militarily! Ignore the libs and islamofascists and step up the military campaigns and we can win this war!

I think you missed the point. You're just thinking like Dubya. If we lose culturally, what's the point. That's just what they wanted all along. Will it really matter if Iraq and Iran become the 51st and 52nd states; but everyone in the world has to wear a head scarf and carry a copy of the Koran just so we don't offend them??
