    Looking for clarity/reassurance

I've been using cannabis for years now but hadnā??t really given much thought to growing it until I was watching the local news and saw police carrying out plants from a house within walking distance from mine.

Until that point I hadnā??t thought of marijuana as a "plant" just a fan leaf you could slap on a t-shirt or dried crap in a baggie that you are always assured is "good shit."

But soon I started to read up on growing for personal use. I found the site Overgrow.com in the last few days before they were raided. I also have been busy reading internet guides as well as full videos on the subject which I found on limewire. I've done my homework.

Towards the begging my attitude was "What a great idea!, I'll save money and have fun growing what is sure to be better shit than what a dealer will sell me."

But the more I know, the more in-doubt about that I am. I have a few issues.

Most grow guides spend precious little time on basics growing and quickly dive into complex and expensive advanced set-ups which take up half the house and involve knowledge I havenā??t had since 10th grade chemistry.

Some of the most complete resources, I find, originate in the Netherlands. However, these guides always skimp on something very important to me: security. With many resources telling me that the cops will investigate my credit purchases, run heat-scans on my house, and log my electricity usage I need some clarity. (I live in the United States)

What Iā??m trying to say is the all of these growing resources seem to be written in a perspective distant from mine. And since I donā??t know any growers (to my knowledge) I want to hear from ordinary people.

    Some specifics:

-What exactly is the cost of growing? Is it cheaper than buying reefer on a fairly regular basis?

-What about electric costs? Iā??ve heard some outlandish figures.

-Reassure/ give me tips on security.

-Do I really need such advanced set-ups?

    I greatly appreciate this.

dude if you can grow outdoors, cost close to nothing. fencing to keep herbevoiors like deer out, plant spray for bugs, a big enough pot with good soil, and a seed.

Iam not a professional grower by all means. But there are somethings i have learned just from the past few weeks. iam on my first grow. 1 cfl (Compact fluorescent) about 7 bucks from walmart. Fan walmart 5 bucks. Soil and pots about 12 dollars. You can go cheap trust me. iam growing in my closet in my room just one plant. Theres always a ghetto way to go. If your a big time grower and you act supiscious then yea they will come after you but if you grow 1 or even 4 plants you will be ok.

    1) What exactly is the cost of growing? Is it cheaper than buying reefer on a fairly regular basis?

thatā??s totally up to you. One guy on here built a sweet grow box out of Tupper bins and it cost like 80$.
And yes it is cheaper than buying (thatā??s how people make big money off growing)

-What about electric costs? Iā??ve heard some outlandish figures.
Not large for a small grow like say 5 plants. If you use CFL's it'll be like having one normal 100W light bulb on. Mine is like 25$ a month

you can just do the math, find how much you pay for a KW Hour find out how much your grow will use and there you go.

(how many watts you use)/1000 x (# of hours) x rate per KWHour = cost

You read about these big ass figures from big ass grow ops. like the ones with 10 1000W bulbs.

-Reassure/ give me tips on security.

    You could get caught by:
Smell (carbon filters, or Odor neutralizing CFLā??s see link later)
Light (gotta seal that shit in)
Electricity(I wouldnā??t worry unless your way above 2000Watts but this is just speculation)
heat (not if small with CFLs),
when you purchase stuff (use cash)
when you are selling (you just gotta be safe)
    (ya i probably missed some)

I just confronted each variable and did the research and spent the money. If you are willing to buy the right shit you'll be well off.

BTW- I find smell the hardest to kill. But i just read about odor neutralizing CFL's so thatā??s sweet for small grows.

Man you need what you want (just make sure you cover the safety bases so you dont get caught) I spent a grand to deck out a closet 2ft x 6ft x 8ft, but it's a good investment. Most people spend less than 200 (the cost on an oz)

Check out the Tupper thing i talked about several of my friends are going to grow in their dorms using this method

He he - I'll help you write that book too.

    1) Is it your own house etc. etc. (remember other people)
    2) Growing your own will pay for the basic set up its self, and yes you will have some good weed - not adulterated in any way.
    3) Have patience, it takes time - but when done, besides an overwelming sense of satisfaction, you will still have the lights etc. for another grow (not as much expense for a second grow if you wanted to do another).
    4) Tell no one.
    5) Good luck

    All the best - Hall
