    Tell us your remedies!

I've heard some pretty usefull odd remedies around here, such as the whole garlin on the feet thing, so I thought it would be cool if we all listed some little-known remedies we know about. I'll start:
    (btw, pain-remedies would be awsome)

    Problem: Cold/Flu
    Remedie: concentrated garllic pills
Result: These seem to work better than ColdFX for me and everybody in my family (and coldFX always kills my colds within 3 days). Basically you can get these hard pills of it, which work much better than the soft-gel capsulse, and as soon as I feel a cold coming on I take one and it's gone. works way better than anything I've tried. (Sorry if that comes out scatter-brained, I'm rather high at the moment)

Problem: Chest cold (or any kind of infection)
    Remedie: Sauna!
Result: That shit'll burn those little germs right out of ya! Just spend a half hour in the sauna (or more if you want), maybe 2-3 times during your illness, and the hot air will make your lungs totally inhospitable to the germs therin (I assume this is how it works, but hey it works non-the-less).

Problem: Mental fatigue, stress/depression, fuzzy memeory
Remedie: Vitamin B12 sublingually, in large doses
Result: I've been doing this for about a month and have really seen the results in the past week or so. I'm not forgetting things half as much anymore, I have way more mental and physical energy (and have thus been excercising a tonne, though it's hard to balance pushing it without hurting myself, which is really easy because of my buggered up spine). And the best thing is I'm barely getting depression at all anymore (maybe a couple hours a week). I've been getting horrible depression and stress from being in pain and all that crap, and after loading up on a double dose of this stuff, it constantly feels like my seratonin levels are higher (I recognize the feeling, because it's similar to psilocybin mushrooms which stimulate seratonin). But make sure you take it under your tongue (sublingual) because it doesn't absorb through the digestinal tract more than about 1% of what you swallow. I've also found this to work well in conjunction with multi-vitamins and lots of food high in vitamin-C.

This works because slightly elevating your body temperature activates your immune system.

My fave remedy is for sleeplessness caused by anxiety; smoke a bowl of dried hop flowers before bed.

For poison ivy, I use absorbine jr, which was originally a horse liniment. It's got thyme, mint, and eucalyptus oils dissolved in acetone and dries out the rash FAST.

For stuffiness, I like to go get sushi with XTRA wasabi. And a hot sake... but not for the cold!

For the lethargic winter blues, I like to cook with lots of hot peppers. I find the spice to be invigorating.

Well, as of right now I am very sick, thus the reason I am not at school. But let me share with you something. Yesterday I had a temperature of 105 degrees. Yes, 105. I was throwing up, convulsing, losing feeling in my arms in legs, I was delirious, dizzy, and basically thought I was going to die. Fortunately, it all subsided and after a good nights sleep, lots of water and ibuprofin my fever had dropped to 100 degrees. I was alone and was feeling really shitty, but much much better, especially compared to yesterday. I began thinking, I've been on a two week break from smoking and I get sick. I have NEVER gotten sick when I smoked 2-3 times a week. So I figured I'd just smoke a little little bit because marijuana is supposed to be "medicinal." Boy was it ever. My fever went away completely, the soreness in my bones went away, and I no longer felt "shitty" That was 4 hours ago. Now, my fever is still down, I feel much better and. unfortunately, will probably have to go to school tomorrow. All I have to say is WHY THE HELL DIDNT MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBE ME MEDICINAL MJ IN THE FIRST PLACE! I had always been sceptical to the truly "medicinal" properties of herb, but I am a sceptic no more. Now, I'm not going to say I'm no longer sick, but mj sure does a hell of a number on the symptoms. for all those who didnt feel like reading this long post, if youve got a bit of a fever, smoke a little bit of bud and youll feel right as rain.

Fikusroot, next time you have a temp of 105 degrees and are convulsing, you need to be at a doctor's office or the emergency room, not at home toughing it out with ibuprofen and bed rest. Seriously, for teens and adults, a temp above 103 can cause neurological damage. That's scary.

    Glad you're feeling better, however.

Actually, brain damage doesnt occur until 107 degrees as up to the 105 mark, your body is still in control of its temperature. If it goes past that than it probably means you have menengitis. I know because I looked it up because I was worried about the same thing. You have no idea the hell that it was. But it was only for an hour that my fever got that high. And I hope it didnt do brain damage since I have been a little out of it today (and not just because I smoked a wee bit). But thanks for your concern, I appreciate it. I've been feeling really shitty but my parents are gonna make me go to school tomorrow anyway. Bastards.

Trust me on this. Damage can occur at lower temps than 105. Everyone's body is different, and you don't want to take chances. Those 105 and 107 boundaries are just arbitrary limits that I'm guessing someone with relatively little first-person medical experience must have written. Different people's brains respond differently, and teenagers' brains are particularly vulnerable to rising temps. (Toddlers' and small kids' brains are much more tolerant of high fevers, believe it or not.) I worked as a paramedic for a number of years, and we transported adolescents and adults routinely--without their consent, if necessary--for temps of 103 or greater. Someone with medical training needs to assess what's going on if you're that sick, even if it's just to identify the source of infection. Anyone with basic emergency training also checks pupillary reactions with temps in that range. Ask any ER doctor and he'll confirm that.

And as far as meningitis is concerned, you can have meningitis or encephalitis and have much lower temperatures than you'd expect. Especially with viral meningitis/encephalitis, fevers sometimes don't get very high. My mom's had meningitis twice, and one time her temp didn't get above 101.6. The other time it was 104, and she had some neurological impairment after that fever.

Glad you're feeling better. I don't see what harm one more day of rest could do you, especially after an ordeal like you've just been through. If you were my son, you'd have one more day off to look forward to.

Did you hallucinate at all Fikusroot? I remember when I was 13 I had a really bad fever, and late at night when I was trying to fall asleep I'd have hallucinations. The most extreme one (and this is damn weired, believe me or don't), I was trying to stay up till midnight to watch "Much Loud" (a metal show) in hopes of catching a metallica video (as I was all obsessed with them at the time). Finally at 11:30 I could't stay awake and felt on the brink of death, so I went to bed. then a little while later this big army seargent bursts into my room, yells at me "GET UP NOW! METALLICA IS ON!", and I did just that. Sure enough, the metallica video for "One" was just starting. And yes, the army guy was a complete hallucination. Possibly the weirdest thing that ever happened to me.

No i was fairly lucid the whole time, only thing that happened was the room started spinning. Now I'm freaking out because I think I may have brain damage. I just feel so out of it today and I'm not as witty or quick as I usually am. I think it's because I'm still kind of sick but I hope this isnt permanent. But my mom called the hospitol and said I had 105 and they didnt come rushing down to rescue me, they just gave her instructions on how to lower my temperature.
