    Why are my seedlings streching?

    Hi Fubar...

I would need to see a picture to confirm that they are actually stretching...

    1. it could be gentics (i doubt it)
    2. the night time (lights off) tempertaure is higher than the day time (lights on) temperature ( i also doubt this is the problem)

*****3. your light is to far from your plants... this is MY guess

If you would like to play it safe and end the stretching, get a 42/150 watt CFL (8-10 dollars at walmart) and put it less than 1 inch from your DARLING baby..

and ..... Lower the HPS 4-6 inches every day until it is 8 inches from your plant..

Have a fan blowing between your plants and your bulb,,, at a slight angle upward.. blowing the heat UP and AWAY from your plants..

Remeber, you will want to flower your plant when it has 4-6 nodes... 70 watts is GOOD for VERY SHORT plants..

    Why are my seedlings streching?

Seedlings under HPS is a tough one, because the HPS is too hot to put close enough to get optimal light.
Listen to the Knowm and get CFLs.

HPS lights produce light in the red spectrum. The red spectrum is not suitable for veg growth and causes stretching. Go for some CFL lights inthe ble spectrum, they are perfect for veg state. CFL lights usually run you form 6-10 bucks so they are usually pretty cost effective.

Fubar, this is an easy one :stoned:

Your light source is too far from your seedlings. You probably have it far away so you can keep the temps down. The problem is that the light is too hot for your plants right now. I agree to go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot or whatever is near you and get some CFL's. You will be able to put the light very close to the seedlings and then they will start growing sideways intstead of stretching to reach your light which is 2 feet away from it.

Don't buy the 42W at Wal-Mart though, cause they are for flowering and they are warmer. Make sure you get the cool bulbs for veg. They should indicate that they are 6500 color temp. You don't have to worry about high wattage at this point in the grow since you're gonna get a stronger light to flower them. You can put those almost touching the plant so it won't stretch at all. A 3 pack at walmart costs less than $5 bucks. I use one on each seedling and they grow nice lush green leaves. Also, you need to bring the temps down under 80. Hope this helps.....

    Why are my seedlings streching?

    i am using a double 48'' flouro w/ 2 GE daylight bulbs(3000 lumen ea., 6500 k)
these bulbs are totally awesome! plants under this gain a node every other day.

day 12 average: four nodes. max height:8 inches.

wish i had a camera, wish you luck babe!

    love, brooke
grow, or grow not. there is no try.

YES buy the 42/150 watt CFL's from K-mart, wal mart, home depot, your mom's house....

THEY WORK better than any other fluorescent in their price range. you can harvest 3 ounce plus per plant using these bulbs from start to finish...
