Why R my buds so fluffy?

Fluffy flowers will have more Trichomes then a hard compact flower.

Think about that for a second.

Hard compact flowers (buds) don't get light to the inside of the bud so the only place the Trichomes will grow large and heavy with THC is where the lights are and that is the outside of the bud only.

With light fluffy buds you have more surface area that can hold Trichomes. Trichomes don't add much in weight but they are the only thing you are after anyway. You don't want to smoke plant matter you want the THC the THC is inside the Trichomes.

As your fluffy buds cure they will reduce in size and the sticky buds will kind of glue together and then you will have a great quality bud that will produce a better high then one that is hard and dry.

You did just fine. Tweak your environment and you can have longer buds that will get your dry weight up.

I was using a 400w hps about 12" above plant

Newb question, how far away should a 400 watt HPS be from the plant? I know the general rule of testing the heat with the back of your hand but are there any specifics?

Hi Zoid...

If you are going to use HID lighting, Air flow and ventilation are KEY..
If the light is more than 12 inches from your foliage.. you will be loosing so many lumens (and in MY opninion) that it is a FREAKING waste to be using HID lighting. You might as well swicth to FLUORESCENTS... of course there are exceptions to this rule.. BUT very very few!

The closer the LIGHT.. the BIGGER the buds.. the bigger the yield.. the more BLING..
