I imagine they just use stuff like the "smoke bud legally" ads that are plastered all over this and every other cannabis site on the net. Doug's character from Weeds was talking about it in one of the podcasts. He claims he's never been high...

Andy from Weeds obviously smokes in real life. He just nails everything about it.

I wouldn't imagine it being too hard to come across fake weed, especially if you are in the movie buisness. Its just another prop.

Mitch Hedburg told a joke, he said he once smoked fake pot in a movie with some guy. Then he said "Don't buy pot from movie sets" only it was funny when he said it.

Most of the time you don't even see the 'weed' up close though, so I wouldn't imagine it being too hard. A lot of things can look like weed from a far enough distance. Just get a bag of oregano, and if you don't want shake, take some wax and shape buds, try it sometime, it can look somewhat convincing.

Alot of theories on here. This one makes the most sense to me.
Alot of the times I really think its real weed when all the stoner symptoms are there, red eye the most though.
