Getting a recommendation (it's NOT a prescription) is easy. All you have to do is really be sick! I will assume for the moment that you DO have a valid reason to get MMJ and aren't just some little get-high. In California, all you need to do is get your medical records (the last 2 or 3 years will do)- your regular doctor will give a copy of them to you, if you ask nicely. Your medical records provide documentation of your illness or condition. Then make an appointment with the cannabis specialist, take an exam and pay the doctor. IF the doctor believes that your condition can benefit from MMJ, he will give you a recommendation. However, if you are just some kid who wants to get high without worrying about getting busted. Become an activist and get it legal that way. Don't mess it up for us REAL MMJ users!

How to get the medical stuff

I have a CA medical MJ recommendation ... it was easy for me to get it, since I have so many serious health problems ... I was amused by the thorough examination I received from my MJ doctor, because I figured it was a big scam, and would get the recommendation, regardless ... to my surprise, he gave me a thorough going-over, and I had a 2-foot-thick stack of medical records, and MRIs, X-rays, CT scans, etc .... I sent a friend with terribly bad knees, in severe pain, to him, and my doctor wouldnt even give him an appointment, because he didn't have a considerable 'medical history' to back up his claims, they wanted a referral from another Doctor ... I was glad to see that it was taken seriously, and not just a 'show' put on to write recommendations ... if you have serious, debilitating health problems, check here for compassionate Doctors ... http://www.canorml.org/prop/215physicians.html ...
be aware: medical marijuana recommendations are WORTHLESS if you catch the eye of the Feds ... state laws mean nothing to them, and it's really the local law enforcement turning their eyes away, that helps ... my local cops could care less about my plants ... I agree wholeheartedly with Storm Crow ... don't fuck it up for the legitimately sick folks ... my best friend wanted me to teach him to grow so he could sell MJ for $$$ ... I told him to fuck off, we have enough of an uphill struggle, without tainting the barely-tolerable MJ use we enjoy ... :smokin:

Many doctors, and the medical community in general, do not even know about some common illnesses, and are likely to not believe many legitimate complaints, much less correctly diagnose some illnesses. I'm all for medical MJ, but the fact is that there are politics, injustices and cases of incompetence in the world of medicine - like every other profession, if not more.

That's probably why there are so few Medical MJ groups outside of a few states.

a couple of my other doctors didnt like me getting a MJ recommendation (from wiser, braver physicians, I might add) ... then, after frowning about the pot, they prescribed several hundred dollars (per month), of prescriptions with pages of 'side-effects and warnings', that do little, or nothing for my health problems, and cause serious problems of their own ... it is a real pleasure to meet doctors that are BRAVE enough to buck the norm, and prescribe MJ when its suitable ... my MJ prescribing doctor also lectured me about using a vaporizer, or cooking with pot, to avoid lung complications ... God Bless doctors brave enough to stand behind their principles ...

Do you think social anxiety could be accepted and treated as treatable with marijuana? Cuz ive heard numerous times that people use this to get cards, also...can you claim to have back problems or w/e and then after a few doctor visits ask about getting a card? or can they find out if its real

How to get the medical stuff

    Hey.

I think it depends on the doc in regards to how difficult it is....that is assuming you do not have legit physical issues. If you do, they have to be pretty substantial and chronic; severe back pain (me), MS, etc. I would start asking around in your smaller circle of friends in your area who smoke, as I'm sure a 'friend may know a friend' kind of a deal in regards to one doc being easier than the next.

The problem I had initially was a small sample of what is pretty typical in this day and age, the doc pushed product first. Meaning, I was on some pretty heavy pain killers (still am, just not as many) and I asked for the ok on some weed, to which he constantly pushed aside and kept telling me surgery was the answer. I was naive back in the day, but I was so desperate for a 'cure' that I was ready to say 'yes' to damn near anything. After some investigating (post-surgery) I found out that my doc (whom I completely trusted at the time) was getting paid for the hardware he was putting in my back. After two failed, I suggested a spinal cord stimulator (he was still dragging his feet on trying weed, which is kinda odd for Oregon), he wanted to put in a different brand...why? Well, at 40K for the unit alone, his cut was substantial. Turned out to be a piece of crap like I suspected, and cut to the chase and went to Mayo and guess which stimulator they said was the best of the best...the exact one I initially suggested, but also the one he wouldn't make any 'side cash' on.

Point being, and yes there is a point in here somewhere , if you have the history to back you, then don't take 'no' for an answer, if he's not budging then move on to the next doc. If you are going to try to make up some sort of problem, I wouldn't waste my time, I'd spend that time in the afore mentioned circle finding a doc that is a little shady and willing to hook you up. Not sure what state you are from, but I THINK (not sure) that psychiatrists can either write them or have a major influence on getting one. This info from a marriage counselor we were seeing in Oregon....but this is also from a woman who before we left our first session she handed me what at the time sounded like bad joke...weed in cooking oil? Huh? I had never heard of it, as I smoked a time or two in high school/college, so I wasn't familiar with some of the other possibilities. I went straight home and hit the kitchen...who knew.

Sorry for the ramble, difficult for me to stop once I get 'rollin''!

    Later.

    Chad

MastaChronic, I'm in Cali, not Oregon, but since the Israelis are using MMJ for ptsd, I imagine it is doable. Here is a news article about it. http://www.drugpolicy.org/news/08_09_04israel.cfm As for bipolar, it would be tougher, since some studies suggest that it might worsen the condition. Others say it helps. I am mildly bipolar (Mom was a full-fledged bipolar, I'm "moody" and can see a "watered down" version of her behavior in me) and cannabis DEFINATELY helps me maintain a more level emotional state. Here's a pro-con discussion of it. http://www.medicalmarijuanaprocon.or....5805565542363 When you go to the doctor, go armed with abstracts to support your case. You need to run a search on --cannabis abstract bipolar (or ptsd) (this is a good way to research ANY disease and cannabis). Having scientific studies to back your claims never hurts and might even educate your doctor. My regular doctor admitted to me that he used to smoke in his college days, but he's too scared of the feds to be a cannabis recommender. So I see Dr. Sullivan, bring him a big load of cannabis abstracts (summaries of scientific studies) and keep my migraines at bay for another year. (If you think migraines are a trivial reason for MMJ, have a migraine and then see what you say. Mine are from being attacked with a hammer, resulting in several dents in my skull and incredible migraines. I was 3 years old when it happened. I found cannabis eliminated them when I was 19- I'm 59, now. Cannabis has been a life-changing experience for me.) CANORML has a list of cannabis specialists. Good luck it getting legal.
