If I was taking a home test I would want to know whether I was at the cutoff before messing with the results. You might pass without trying to dilute your urine. That is what most people I know do. Then if they fail they do a trial run of dilution to see how much they need to do. If you dilute too much you could get a negative dilute. Sometimes they let you retest, most of the times they don't so that can be just as bad. You want to dilute enough to pass without making your urine straight water. The line for the test is often times a little fainter than the control. If it can be picked up by a copying machine, then it is a good line.
