I've only ever taken 4 clone cuttings in my life. 2 of them sprouted roots straight away. One needed it's bottom tip cutting off and re-potting, then it grew roots. This was about a month after the first cut! the last one wouldn't grow any roots but it stayed alive for ages until i had to let it go

Speaking from my limited experience....
If it hasn't started rooting by now it might be worth getting a fresh cut on the stem (do it under water) and sticking into a new peat pellet thing. There are products which are meant to encourage rooting but it might be a lost cause.. can you ask your friend for a new cutting?

Is it really flowering without any roots? Get that picture up mate!
