5+ megapixels is good but check to make sure you have enough light and hold it still thats always important.

yeah... mine is 5.1 megapixels... and it is pretty difficult to get a good solid non-blurry picture that shows good details (hairs, crystals, ect).

Man, mine is also 5.1 megapixels, but it's really shitty for some reason. I can't get good close-ups of anything on it.

It's not about megapixels IMO!! My camera is 3.2 megapixels and I can just about take bud shots. The key is to not use auto focus in macro mode, but manual focus and a tripod for a steady shot. There are other threads slightly related to photography here1, here2, and here3.

you need to look at cameras manual- see what the closest focusing distance may be and keep that distance from subject- some lenses will not focus closer then 6 feet- if so take picture at largest file size and crop in photoshop- good luck

I would imagine that your camera has a close up setting. My cam is 5MP and I can get close ups but I only found this out when I read the instruction manual.

Yeah, reading the manual is also very good advice. I didn't read mine for over 13 months, I now realise what I been missing!!!
