It was made illegal in the US back in the 30s and it was a way to help control the Mexican population that was flooding into the country. It is probably illegal still for completely different reasons, but bullshit ones just the same.

yup theres no good reason for it to be illegal, it just costs the government more money but it could be cuz the government thinks that people who smoke weed commit crimes so they wanna lock em up for smokin cuz they cant catch em for other stuff

some reasons are bullshit and some are half founded, but all in all its bullshit and alot of things would be better if it were legal, and some wouldnt , but still everything has +'s and -'s. i doubt it'll be legal for a while now...

There are many reasons why it's not legal, most of the major ones have to do with money. Think about this logically. A great number of people in jail today are there because of minor drug charges (i don't remember the statistic but it's a ridcoulusly high percantage, something like half). "Three stirkes and you're out" laws in many states have caused ridicoulus sentances for minor drug offenses which causes prison populations to swell. Now this is, from most points of view, not a good thing. But now that it's occured it's difficult to stop because so many people make money. Police officers, prison guards, prison upkeap, prison construction and so forth, many of these people have jobs because marijuana is illegal and prisoners are abundant.

Another reason, but this is only speculation, is the big drug lords don't want marijuana to be legal. If MJ was legal then people would be less likely to come into contact with "hard" drugs through shady dealers. This would cause the big timers to lose alot of money. There's no doubt that they, in some form or another, "lobby" the lawmakers to keep MJ illegal.

Yet another reason is because it's easy for politicians to use as a tool to get votes. They can spread misinformation about the "dangers" of MJ and promise to "crack down" on this "life destroying drug" in an effort to get votes.

Either way you slice it, we get the shaft.

the main part ov it iz the crime related aspect, not ov smokin it, but traffickin it 2 make money. then they turn that whole aspect into it bein drug money 2 fund other illegal operationz, which most ppl think ov az killin, robbin, shit like that. an the fact iz that most ppl on earth r straight, so the gov't will try an keep the country straight 2 plz the majoirty an stay in power. thatz all there iz 2 it.

I'm fine with weed being illegal. The fact is it DOES have a negative affect on your brain if you smoke lots of it constantly (which most users do). My memory is shit and my grades dropped in the past year, i'm slower, clumsier, more tired then usual, I constantly make dimwitted mistakes and I can tell it's because i've smoked weed over the course of the last 15 months.

On the other hand i'm calmer, I appreciate things more, my music has gotten better and i'm more relaxed then I was. This is why I smoke and I accept the consequences of it. If any old kids could easily get hold of weed, they'd be doing it everyday like the world was gonna end. Cigarettes are legal because people want and will smoke them over and over and over, the government gets lots of money and noone is hurt that bad until they die of lung cancer or whatever, but everyone knows that's what happens when you inhale smoke into your lungs.

Anyone on this site who's smoked longer then 6 months can deny it's had any long term affect on them but they are deluding themselves. I love draw, but I know it's changed me more for the worse then it has for the better and that's why i'd rather it was illegal 'cause in the end, everyones better off without it, as they are alcohol and cigarettes.

Grade's aren't everything.. you've been told they are; you need good grades to get a good job, get a nice house, car, etc etc..

to me, thats more important than grades, a career, and the persuit of little pieces of paper.. but hey, fair do's if thats how you see it
