Pale patches on the leaves can be so many things.
I always suggest to newbs that they buy a $3 packet of yellow sticky pest monitoring cards that you can get at lots of hardware stores, and you can rule out insect damage that way, or figure out what you are dealing with.
Flying pests can make pale spots on the leaves.
