I'm sure that light will work fine, but for that price you can probably do better. Insidesun.com has complete 250w MH systems at a lower price. I agree that 400w is too strong for a young plant. That's why I have a couple of cheap (6500k) CFL's from Wally World for the beginning. Then I put them under my 400w light. The problem with a 400W at the start is that to get the right temp you have to keep the light far away causing them to stretch which I don't like. With the cool CFL's, I can put the light about 1 inch from the plants which encourages more side growth. If you can't get a couple CFL's for now, move the light away so the temps are under 80. You're better off with a stretching plant than one that's suffering from heat stress. You can always chop it later if it gets too tall. Good Luck
