Ahhhh....The Colors of Fall!!

Well, I'm new here but I wanted to share a few pics of this years bud. I grow one outdoor plant a year (which usually lasts me a year 'cuz I'm a casual smoker) and I'm particularly proud of this years crop!

Strain: Purple Cough Sativa.

Growing Medium: Hyponex Potting Soil/5-gallon plastic pot.

Initial Additives: A generous sprinkling of Ozmicote mixed into potting soil .

Germination: Wet paper towel-February 10, 2006.

General Fertilization: Miracle Gro/bi-monthly.

General Watering: Every 2-3 days when sunny.

Special treatments: Central leader topped at 2-months. Watered with 12 1/2 ounces of 100% Pure Vermont maple syrup in 2 gallons of water, 2 weeks after first buds appeared. Will water again with same maple syrup mixture in one week. Will water again with mixture of Raw 100% Pure Natural Uncooked Honey in 2 gallons of water, one week before harvest.

Estimated Harvest Date: Three weeks from today.

Estimated Yield: 1-2 ounces, manicured.

Hi Paul,

The maple syrup/honey idea is an experiment this year. First off, I've always relished the purple bud so I'm especially pleased with this years plant. Another quality I really like in my bud is a lot of sugar-coating (you know, the white, sticky powdery stuff that makes you cough). Those are the trichomes...the little balls of sap that ooze out of the maturing buds and smaller leaves.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that you can increase the amount and size of the trichomes by watering with a sugar-solution while the plant is budding. It makes sense to me, after all trichomes are sap and in a lot of plant and trees, sap is predominately sugar. Take for instance pine sap...sweet and sticky!

I'm hoping that by adding natural, sugary sap from maple trees (hence my maple syrup concoction) and natural sugars made from plants by honeybees, I'll be able to alter and increase the amount of trichomes on my buds. I'm also hoping the honey and maple syrup will add a bit of flavor to the buds.

Anyway, I plan on adding a pound of organic honey to 2-gallons of boiling water to dilute it enough so the plant can absorb the sugar molecules (letting it cool before I water, of course).

I figure the use of natural, organic sugars from other plants is better than using refined sugar, and after all, what have I got to lose??

If I suceed in boosting the trichomes in my plant, and adding a little 'maple flavor' to the buds, I think I'll call it "Murple Syrup"!!

thats very good idea, i think i will use it. Just harvested my first pland and my other one has 3 weeks left, i would like to boost the trichs a little bit if thats possible. How many times do i have to water it with straight honey-water?

Hi Paul,

As I mentioned, this is an experiment so I don't have any experience with this method, but here are my thoughts:

1. Too much watering with the honey-sugar solution could be a bad thing if the soil stays wet too long and the honey starts to ferment.

2. I would think that one application, perhaps a week or so before harvest should be enough. Ever notice that when you miss a watering and your plant begins to droop?? So you water it right away, and within a couple of hours the plant is perky again? It doesn't take long for the plant to absorb the water and anything you may have added to it. If the plant is going to absorb any of the sugars from the honey, it will happen quickly.

3. I would follow up with a flushing of straight clean water no more than two days after watering with the honey/water solution, just to make sure (that's what I'm going to do).

4. I've already used the maple syrup solution once, last week. I'm going to do it again next week. Then, a week later, I'll do the honey solution, about a week before harvest. So far so good for me, and I think you may be able to get away with the Honey solution on your plant twice before you harvest.

Was the plant you harvested already the same strain as the one that has 3 weeks left to go?? If so, do the honey thing and compare!! I'd like to know your results!!

my other plant had a nasty nute-burn last week and i see she developes kinda spindly buds since then. I extensively flushed her 4-5 days ago till all the chems were out of the soil, now she has a stable ph level of 6.5-7. What should i do for the spindly buds? Try the honey solution?

That's one Bodacious Cola!! Funny how seeds from the same plant can produce different plants.. it's happened to me a few times.

our posts crossed... If your plant is recovering from the nute-burn, all is well...go easy on any future fert (if any at all) and make sure and remove any severely burnt and/or yellowing fan leaves. Your plant shouldn't be further affected by the honey thing since it's not adding any additional fert to the soil.

Well she made it a week and i see new growth coming back to health but most of the leaves have damage, u think i should remore some leaves? I dont want to stress her anymore removing most of the fan leaves
