the drying is necessary to remove any water... smoke fresh bud and youll know what im talking about.
the curing is necessary apparently because it activates the cannabinoids... so your bud will be way more potent AFTER the cure.
you can cure in a tuperware or i use glass jars.

"so your bud will be way more potent AFTER the cure."
I think you may be overstating here. What do you more experienced growers say? I know that curing improves the taste but does it make it "way more potent"?
You'll find out that you will get plenty high after your buds dry even though they will be harsh on the throat. Try some early on during the curing process and you'll know first hand.

The smoke and high is better after curing, no doubt. But Id put most of the emphasis on the smell and taste. If all your trying to do is get high, well then yuo can put it in the oven if you dont care. But I think most people who invest the time and effort into growing, are willing to wait a few extra weeks to guarantee some smooth and great tasting smoke.
Hell, you get high from bud that is picked 4 weeks early...but most everyone waits those extra 4-5 weeks to make it perfect. So wait the other extra few weeks.

im harvesting soon, for the first time, but i have smoked some early samples, and ive got a lot of smoking experience, if that means anything.
the agrument for proper curing is very good.
im from the uk, so the following may not make total sense to others, but its the same thing.
i love beer, certain beers like carsberg special brew will get you drunk on 4 cans...but it tastes like shit, and has a nasty buzz.
other beers like 1664, and san miguel are much more favourable.

in answer to your question, in the UK people put slices of apple or potato into large pouches of rolling tobacco, to keep it from drying out.
this does work if the pouch is opened frequently and get dry quick.
but....weed is different,, if its too dry theres no point trying to re-hydrate it, it will only ruin it. just mix it with some tobacco and smoke.

HAHA RX's post about the oven drying reminded me of once
when I took a bud out of my yeild to smoke right away and
poped it in the microwave the microwave started shooting
electicity all over the bud it was wierd and stunk like hell
and the taste was just god awful. That was the first and
last time I tried that.
