The Grim Reaper
It happened about 6 years ago.
My friend came over to my house, and asked if I had any smoke - I had not, but suggested that we go to my contact and get some.
He had been drinking, not much, but enough for him not to be able to drive - so I had to drive.
There is a stretch of road that runs alongside a very steep hill, and to the left, a 30ft drop onto a steep slope thaty runs down about 200ft to a river. The road was wet, but it was not raining. Luckily, I was feeling rather sedate at the time, and my usual stlye of driving was curtailed into a nice steady drive. As I rounded a corner (one that, in the dry, I have taken at well over 80mph) (I was doing less than 50mph at this time), the back of the car stepped out. I wasn't too worried, as my speed was fairly low - but all of a sudden, the car swerved violently out of control.
I managed to get the car back under control briefly, before it went again. This time, I wasn't able to bring it under control.
We hit the bank that lined the side of the road, and the car flipped.
What happened next, I will never forget.
It seemed to take an eternity, but as the car was rolling, I thought that we had gone over the edge of the bank, anbd were now rolling down the hill towards the river, some 200ft below. I thought that this was it - we're dead.
I remember feeling totally calm and at peace - I was going to die, and there was nothing that I could do about it. I remember feeling almost relieved.
Then I saw a darkness coming towards me. It was like a darkness that I have never seen - total. Like being in a cave with no lights or sound.
It came towards me, and I knew that I was going to die. There was no 'life flashing before my eyes. No tunnel or angels. No voices or anything, but I knew in my heart that I was going to die.
And the wierdest thing about it was that I was cool about it.
My (then) wife was about three months pregnant with our first child, and that thought suddenly popped into my head - I thought "I can't die yet, I'm going to be a dad!"
It was at that point that I decided that I didn't want to die, and I moved my head down....just as the roof of the car caved in.
If I had not moved my head - it would not be there right now.
It hasn't changed my life - I haven't become a devout follower of any religion, but it did give me that experience of near-death.
It was totally calm.
Totally acceptable.
I met the Grim Reaper, and I denied him.
I wonder if I offended him lol
Just thought that I'd share it, but of course it is a shortened version of what happened that I cannot properly put into words...very wierd.
