    The Grim Reaper

It happened about 6 years ago.
My friend came over to my house, and asked if I had any smoke - I had not, but suggested that we go to my contact and get some.
He had been drinking, not much, but enough for him not to be able to drive - so I had to drive.
There is a stretch of road that runs alongside a very steep hill, and to the left, a 30ft drop onto a steep slope thaty runs down about 200ft to a river. The road was wet, but it was not raining. Luckily, I was feeling rather sedate at the time, and my usual stlye of driving was curtailed into a nice steady drive. As I rounded a corner (one that, in the dry, I have taken at well over 80mph) (I was doing less than 50mph at this time), the back of the car stepped out. I wasn't too worried, as my speed was fairly low - but all of a sudden, the car swerved violently out of control.
I managed to get the car back under control briefly, before it went again. This time, I wasn't able to bring it under control.
We hit the bank that lined the side of the road, and the car flipped.
What happened next, I will never forget.

It seemed to take an eternity, but as the car was rolling, I thought that we had gone over the edge of the bank, anbd were now rolling down the hill towards the river, some 200ft below. I thought that this was it - we're dead.

I remember feeling totally calm and at peace - I was going to die, and there was nothing that I could do about it. I remember feeling almost relieved.
Then I saw a darkness coming towards me. It was like a darkness that I have never seen - total. Like being in a cave with no lights or sound.
It came towards me, and I knew that I was going to die. There was no 'life flashing before my eyes. No tunnel or angels. No voices or anything, but I knew in my heart that I was going to die.
And the wierdest thing about it was that I was cool about it.

My (then) wife was about three months pregnant with our first child, and that thought suddenly popped into my head - I thought "I can't die yet, I'm going to be a dad!"
It was at that point that I decided that I didn't want to die, and I moved my head down....just as the roof of the car caved in.

If I had not moved my head - it would not be there right now.

It hasn't changed my life - I haven't become a devout follower of any religion, but it did give me that experience of near-death.
    It was totally calm.
    Totally acceptable.

I met the Grim Reaper, and I denied him.
I wonder if I offended him lol

Just thought that I'd share it, but of course it is a shortened version of what happened that I cannot properly put into words...very wierd.

Wow reinstate...thats really a great story. I totally believe you, too. And I'll tell you why...because i've met death too!
My heart stopped, my body fell and my soul floated peacefully out. I was cool with it too. Kind of a nice feeling. Death offered me a choice, to stay or go. And like you, i chose to stay for my family. Plus theres so much more weed to smoke and music to write!
    thats fuckin awesome huh!!!!!

Wow. Hopefully, if anything like that happens to me I'll get a choice, too. I have sleep apnea and sometimes when I stop breathing I dream that I am suffocating and it's horrendous...it's not peaceful at all. I no longer sleep on my stomach anymore because of the nightmares I have when I stop breathing.

Euph, do you mind if I ask what happened to you?

Yeah, like, when I got out of the car, I noticed that every single panel on it had been smashed. The police told me I was lucky to getr out of.
What seemed to take an eternity, took only a few seconds. I was amazed at how little distance the car had actually travelled during the tumble.

We were both ok, if a little shaken, and the cops gave us a lift to my contact lol

Ironically, the copper that was driving was pro-cannabis cool
Needless to say, we didn't tell him that we were going to score..hmmm, he might have taken umbrage to that..pro-cannabis, or not lmaoo

MJM, it must be horrendous for you...is it, like, when you are drifting off to sleep, your whole body has to 'jump' back into ife because you slow down so much?
    Kinda like goin into hibernation?
I get that, and it pisses me right off lol...just dropping off, then WHAM!!!..WTF!!...
My ex-missus used to hate me for that (amongst other things), because she usually got kicked or summat lol...I told her I couldn't help it....bwhahahahaa, much

Lulu, you're too funny. I was saying I have sleep apnea, it's when you stop breathing when you sleep. It started out as just really LOUD thunderous snoring and became much worse. If I sleep on my stomach I will stop breathing. When I do I will dream that I am suffocating...being strangled, drowning, etc. It's awful. It's not peaceful, I'll start to panic and fight and freak out. I will wake up and have to take deep breaths to regain my normal breathing and then I am usually so freaked I have to get out of bed. I get that smacked feeling like Res was talking about where you feel like you've jumped back into your body, too. Needless to say, I sleep on my side or back.

    hmmm...
well i had been having panic attacks, but this one took the cake...i had got so worked up in my panic. inside my mind and my body this RED ALERT feeling came over me. I knew i had only seconds to live. I had to calm down!!!
But i couldn't. My left arm went numb, turned purple. Then My heart gave such a terrible THUMP and then seized and stopped. It hurt a lot.
Then i fell down. My vision changed. And i felt myself slip out of my body, floating, weightlessly. It felt really cool. I was like..hey this is neat!
A Portal opened before me. it was dark. well..the communication between me and death was strange. no words. only understanding. i knew that it was not yet my time, though i could be realeased if i wanted...
death approved. the portal closed. i sunk back into my body (quite difficult. it was like putting on a really big glove) and then woke up. then i went to the ER. yay
thats why i believe you reinstate!

    The Grim Reaper

I remember my first panic attack, it happend on October the 2nd 2003 (I remember this cos I was my 20th birthday (I never liked birthday's but this took the biscuit) I panic'd for hours and the worst thing was that I didn't have a clue what the fuck it was. I was trying pretty hard to get off the drink at the time and I thought I might be better off in bed. So I tryed to sleep and I started to hear voice's and see thing's with my eye's closed I was de-realising to the extent that I belived I was going to die.

Anyway that is what I consider to have been my first death lol.

MJM do you have to wear a mask in bed? (I know a couple of people with sleep apnea and they do.)
