how do you take your hits?

I usually draw the smoke into my mouth, push it out a bit and breathe in so it curls back into my mouth, hold it down for a few secs, and exhale slowly..

Im just wondering wether it be pipes/joints/bongs/blunts etc. How do you take "big hits" Do you inhale smoke slowly, but until you cant breathe anymore? or do you inhale smoke fast until you cant breath anymore? or what? help THANKS!
