Good Soil Mix?
I was thinking about using 50% mushroom compost and 50% perlite for my next grow. I have 4 little widow seedlings needing a new home.
Anybody see a problem with this? Its about impossible to get promix for a decent price where I live.

50% compost may be too high, although I don't know anything about mushroom compost. Worm castings are great, and some peat moss or coco coir would be good too. A more standard mix may be more like equal parts perlite, worm castings, and coco coir or peat. Or like 50% perlite, then equal parts worm castings and peat or coir. I have a hunch that it wouldn't be a good idea to use more than 20% mushroom compost, but then again I don't really know. Have fun mixing up your soil

Good Soil Mix?
I wouldn't recommend using mush. compost. There is a reason that it is only 1$ a bag, it's because it is shitty. What it is, is normal compost that has been used to grow mushrooms in and therefore a lot of the nutrients have been used up by the mushrooms. And they sell it because it isn't good enough to grow mushrooms in anymore. If it isn't good enough for mushrooms is it good enough for your plants. i hope not.
Worm castings are the best but are also very expensive. I use “black gold” it is a mix between worm castings and some other things. It is about 5$ for 8L which is a lot. With soil you really get what you pay for.
Hope this helpsGreat website www.beansandbarley.com

Good Soil Mix?
actually, the reason i suggested mushroom compost is that its the most expensive thing i can easily find....its about $6 a bag. ive read the faq's and their are SO many combinations, i'm just trying to get a good simple one. no one sells promix, greensand or worm castings around here. my options are pretty much peat, some kind of compost (mushroom, cow manure) or bagged potting soil. money isnt a major problem.....finding the ingredients is! i have spent some major $$$ on my new hobby and i'm ready for some good results!
ps this is going to be my 4th grow....at what point do i change over from "newbie" to "dummy"

Well in that case it may be time to experiment with some mushroom compost, and post your results.

...in my reading materials, concerning cannabis growing, mushroom compost, was never mentioned. You would be be better, with bagged potting soil, in my opinion.
