White LEDs, even the superbright ones, are the wrong spectrum for growing. They do have superbright red and blue LEDs that are rated at 60000 mcd that I am waiting to test out.

After a year of led ,,,, not one person has published any data. Does that tell you anything, after 30 years of the same old hps an hp , and the low life florsents.
Now the compaq florsents , well , cost per lumen over 3 months is out of this world.
The old fashion 18,24,92 in still are top producers of the watts in the florsents. NOTE even then you replace the bulbs every 3-4 months.
Please note the cpf surface to plant in not very much. Refledtion and bounce cost 6-15% per surface ,,,, that amounts to alot of losses. NFG at best

Not sure what that had to do with the question, Oldsanclem ... and, what's up with the ",,,,"'s, are those meant to be elipsis (which are three dots, interrupted by three spaces - though the space between them from a computer is sufficient. e.g. [. . .] or when typing [...])?

First "superbright LEDs" are GHAY!
The only LEDs approriate for any horticultural use are Luxeons, and very soon the new Cree's will be out - they'll be better than the Luxeons
Now if you're talking about Luxeon whites, there is a lot of blue in them, but not so much red, so you'd need other Luxeon supplements, which when used in combination, are more than satisfactory for growing.
Even better than HPS and better than MH.
And remember the rules talk about the growing with LEDs, even as supplements, but only represent grows in photos as HID! Don't let the secret out!

between the 2 post i have yet to see anyone state any PAR wattage numbers on LEDs, you may be hitting the correct spectrum but theres not enough power behind it, with a multi million dollar indoor horticulture industry why dont we hear of any big companies doing R&D with LEDs? bottom line is plants love strong light, i mean "sun basking plants" such as marijuana love it, go ahead and grow your house plants under LED's im sure they love the shade but i'll stick to my HIDs until proven otherwise
