    Fan for cool tube

I just made my first pyrex cool tube for my 250 hps, i got 4" x 36" ducting (including the tube itself) and i was thinking about getting one of these fans, or something similar.

Does anyone think i'll need more?? I don't have lots of money for a blower so that is out of the question, and also if this is enough should I have it sucking the warm air out or blowing air in??

Those fans you have are not gonna do shit. That is what i was told. Those are more less to move air around in you duct work. You need something like a centrifugal fan.

    Killa,

We have that exact same fan. We bought the 8" 500 cfm and it works like a champ. You will not believe how quiet they are. Very impressive...Good luck to you.

    Peace :stoned:

Killakalimist, do you have an odor filter at the end of your air line? The issue with the cheaper fans as I understand it is that they aren't designed to produce high static pressure, and tend to underperform/die when forced to push air through a carbon can.

that inline 4" fan should be sufficient for just a 250-watt light, just keep the ductwork as straight as possible ... any bends in the duct greatly reduce the airflow ... :smokin:

....along with keeping that duct work as straight as possible.....

Make sure your intake ventilation is equal to or at best ...double that of what the inline duct fan moves....this will assist your movement of air as well.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and instead of getting an inline fan I ended up buying a 4" high velocity fan............and it works GREAT........paid 5 bucks for it (on sale from 11.99..ooohhh). After running my light for almost 6 hours i could grab ahold of my tube and barely feel any heat except for a small area around the tip of the bulb. I was moving my light up and down and letting it sit for an hour at a time to see if the bending would have much effect on it as well......there was no notable loss in air movement and the temp stayed the same..... i ended up buying 5 of the fans just in case, i will be using one as an intake fan on the back of the cab and one for the tube.........3 extra's incase something burns out
