Oh my, good question. I love these guys, well you can't go wrong with the hits, White Rabbit and Somebody to love. The other day I called the local radio station to request White Rabbit, but they didnt have it. Bummer. But I also like Pauls version of Wooden Ships...
have you heard their Earth album? its all good. (except it's Jefferson Starship)
did I mention Grace was SUCH a hottie?!

My list of Airplane Favs
1) The Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil
2) D.C.B.A. 25
3) 3/5 Of A Mile in Ten Seconds
4) Good Shepherd
5) Crown Of Creation
6) Lather
7) White Rabbit
8) Plastic Fantastic Lover
9) Volunteers
10) Martha
My 2 favorite Airplane TV appearances
1) The Dick Cavett Show (8/18/69). They appeared (along with Crosby Stills & Nash) all in their same muddy clothes from Woodstock a day earlier, performing "Volunteers" and an up-tempo version of "Somebody to Love" which got the audience standing up and really "getting into the groove". Slick, obviously blitzed, kept calling Cavett "Jim" during the talk, only to have Cavett reply
"You gotta learn my name, Miss Joplin."
2) The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (11/68), playing "Crown of Creation". Slick appears with her face painted brown and raising her fist throughout the set, symbolizing "Black Power". This created a huge firestorm with the CBS censorship board at the time (remember, this is the late 1960s, the peak of the racial tensions with riots breaking out in many major US cities), which perhaps got the ball rolling for the cancellation of the Smothers Brothers show five months later. To view the Board Rules: http://boards.cannabis.com/introduce...ard-rules.html

I saw them in Central Park, NYC, for free, once. It was around the time that the album Volunteers came out.
I used to have the single of Mexico/Have You Seen the Saucers? (sleeve pictured below), released in 1970. It was one of the first 45 RPM's in stereo that I ever owned.
I haven't heard it in years, but their first live album, Bless It's Pointed Little Head, is GREAT whether you're stoned or not. Jack Casady's bass playing is the best thing about that band, and he really stands out on this record. I never heard it on CD, only vinyl.

I've liked them since junior high and still love them. Even though I wasn't even on earth yet when they were around. My favorite song is Today.
