My 2 favorite Airplane TV appearances

1) The Dick Cavett Show (8/18/69). They appeared (along with Crosby Stills & Nash) all in their same muddy clothes from Woodstock a day earlier, performing "Volunteers" and an up-tempo version of "Somebody to Love" which got the audience standing up and really "getting into the groove". Slick, obviously blitzed, kept calling Cavett "Jim" during the talk, only to have Cavett reply
"You gotta learn my name, Miss Joplin."

2) The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (11/68), playing "Crown of Creation". Slick appears with her face painted brown and raising her fist throughout the set, symbolizing "Black Power". This created a huge firestorm with the CBS censorship board at the time (remember, this is the late 1960s, the peak of the racial tensions with riots breaking out in many major US cities), which perhaps got the ball rolling for the cancellation of the Smothers Brothers show five months later.
