Question about Fear & Loathing In the movie Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, what does Johnny Depp smoke out of the light bulb when Dr. Gonzo is on his crazy acid trip in the bathtub? If I remember correctly he is sitting in front of the television, and the camera moves so that it looks like the couch he's sitting on is levitating. Rating: 5

It also happens to be a crude (very crude) way of vaping bud. If you want to believe it's meth, fine, go ahead, that's your choice, and I can see that anything I say is not going to convince you otherwise. I'm just saying that I can say with what I believe to be a fairly high degree of certainty that what he smokes in that scene is bud and not meth.

I always thought it was meth, since the scene surrounds him with a shroud of t.v. static, kind of in a "wired" way. He did not specify the uppers as pills, as smokin endo says. And in addition, the light bulb is like a meth skillet in that it has a stem proceeding to a bulb.

meth is never mentioned in the list of drugs at the begining,

Yeah, I admit that meth COULD be in that list, but having read almost everything Hunter S. Thompson wrote, I don't see him as someone who would do meth. Speed, yes, but not meth specifically. The fact that meth only began to be made for recreational use in the late 60's also leads me to believe that it simply wouldn't have had the time to permeate the drug culture to reach a point where it would have been written about in a major work.

He is smoking HASHISH! He says so. He says something like I just need to get some good rest and drink a little rum and smoke some hash.
