Topping and FIM

Hey all,
I have done the FIM technique with one plant and ordinary topping on another. Anyone know how long it takes for the plants to start growing vertically again? Also, if I were to put these plants into flowering within the next week, would that defeat the topping?

I've topped my plants, and after a week they had about 1-2" long branches on the top, so I think they will be OK to flower.
