    fire hazzard?

I have a small growroom set up in my closet (suits 5-6 plants)...I made it out of an old dresser turned on its side, but I got lazy and instead of building a wooden door for it, I made a tarp out of garbage bags (white for the inside and black on the outside). I didn't really plan ahead and I bought a 400 watt hps light. The problem is that it kinda sticks out of the side cause of it being so wide...as a result, the reflector makes contact with the tarp. Is this an accident waiting to happen? I think I'm going to test how hot it would get by leaving a plastic bag over the reflector for a couple hours..supervised of course

you are right, the plastic garbage bags will melt, unless you got an air conditioner blowing directly into the cabinet, which i doubt, it will get too hot'
i hope you have help 911 on speed dial for the fire department.

Here in Philly a guy burnt his house down with his grow room and two firemen died. The DA wants to charge him with murder. He may have been negligent but he's not a murderer. It's all political. If it had of been christmas lights he wouldn't of been charged.
Be careful.Sheetrock(drywall) wont burn.Make sure it's ventilated.A 12 inch square of sheet metal(or diamond plate) suspended directly above the light a few inches down from the ceiling can prevent a hot spot.Good luck.

one tip - New grow box - 400 watts will get way to hot for your plants in the space you have.
