Birds seem to fly as a defence mechanism, and a way to sustain themselves. Thats what protects them from most predators. Since they are very small, they have evolved to meet the challenges they face. Other than that..., i rekon they fly because they think they can.

do you think birds fly for fun

I was sitting in my car one day and I noticed a bird that kept circling the sky. I thought he looks like he is flying for fun because it did not seem like he was trying to get anywhere in particular. He had his wings spread and at times glided around in the sky. I have seen other birds glide like this so I came to the conclusion that birds do indeed fly for fun

I am so glad that there are other people who take time to reflect and notice things like this... a lot of people would be too consumed with their day to day life to even notice. Thank you for making people stop and reflect.

Maybe the bird was exercising, looking for something, was confused about where to go, etc etc etc but I don't think it was for fun. Like alot of people said, it's like if after a long day of walking everywhere, we decide the best way to take load off is to..walk? Probably not, many birds fly for over 70% of their waking life, to do things they have to do to live. If they had the presence of mind to think of their #1 mode of survival, defense, and travel as "fun", I'm sure they'd be long bored of it after an hour of being awake.

Deaf, blind, and other handicapped people value those capabilities more than people who can hear and see properly because they cannot do those things, just like the average guy values flying more than birds because it's a capability that we do not have
