    CFL Cab Grow Log...

Really nice work KD. I've been following the thread, and have got quite a bit out of it. It's certainly given me much to think about in my own growing plans.

I've come to the conclusion that most of the criticisms of CFL growing revolve around a misunderstanding of the real "niche" CFLs are meant to fill - namely, the micro grower, who is really only interested in keeping a garden for his immediate needs, or who wants to "boutique" a few quality plants for some far out straing, etc.

Obviously, for larger operations they become cost prohibitive.

One problem I've perceived, further, is that a lot of the advice being given to micro-growers is usually just a scaled down version of things one would do in a more "commercial" setting. That is not at all a knock at those techniques or the quality of the product they can produce. It simply means that when you go onto a really small scale, your priorities are probably different. Having the absolutely most efficient watt/lumen ratio isn't the only consideration - keepin' it simple, and super stealth are also important.

Further, it's obvious from everything I've seen that cfls really cannot be used at all in the same way HIDs are. They need to be kept close to the plants, which is how they compensate for their lower intensity. Further, they offer a very good colour spectrum if you buy the right bulbs.

I'm still trying to hammer out exactly how I want to do this. But you've certainly been of some assistance with your growlog. Thanks again.

Sweet, thanks for the info! I'm actually in Hamilton, but come to Toronto every now and then. They only do coco eh? I'll definately have to check this place out - I just switched to coco , with good old Canna nutrients. I think coco is definately well suited for small grows because you need about 1/4 the amount of coco to grow a plant the same size as in soil = more room for the plants! Feed the plants with a wick and you have you very own mini sub-irrigation hydro system that doesn't need any pumps or hose or any of that mess.

But yeah, those plants are bloody impressive for 96w of fluorescent. Your putting some 150hps grows to shame with an ounce per plant. Props!

Have you considered scrog, LST, or any other training method? I bet you could increase your yield even further..something like 50% more, easily :stoned:

Hey duckfool, maybe you can clarify something for me (being in Hamilton 'n all) - is the "Up In Smoke Cafe" in fact totally closed down, or just their actual "smoking" section. I ask, because I'm wondering if they're still up and running to do seed sales out of their storefront.

    Hey,

Unfortunately, they are completely closed as far as I know. It's unfortunate that we had to loose one of the countries biggest seedbanks and activism locations, right in our own backyard.

Good thing there is a good place in the same location to get seeds...

Toronto420 Seed Bank - Top Quality Seeds At Affordable Prices

    Right in kensinton

and the better store on young Street..

Sacred Seed - Exotic Seed and Houseplant Shop - Toronto Ontario Canada - Medicinal and Rare Species - Cannabis Sativa / Indica Medical Marijuana / Marihuana / Hemp Seeds Breeders List

boths are great places to grab beans... Good prices too..

    CFL Cab Grow Log...

...I'm working on two different gardens right at the moment. My main garden is still lit by a single 600w Sunmaster HPS being driven by a Lumatek digital ballast. It fills an approximately 9 to 10 square foot space.

My new 'livingroom' garden is on a lower shelf between two tall bookshelves, and is about two and a half square feet, being lit by 12 CFLs (well, 10 at the moment, but soon to be twelve, as soon as I can find those other big boys in me mess): 4x45w 4100k, 4x26w 6500k, and 4x26w 2700k, for a total of 24,800 lumens (only 18,800 @ the moment, but soon to be fixed).

I want to see if I can achieve similar bud density with the CFLs, as the lumens per square foot ratio is roughly the same in both places. I can get the CFLs closer to the plants tho, and so this is going to get interesting

It was getting too crowded in the main garden anyways

Thanks for helping me to feel silly but Heya... perhaps the original thread-ites are still around...?
