I prefer smaller bongs that can be transported easily. And that can be used in outdoor environments. Smoking outside at night in a park or something is awesome.
Bongs n\' Blunts, the only way to smoke.

Yeah, I had a bong that was so long you could just barely light it with your arm outstretched, so I had it shortened and it's much easier to smoke and carry it around. Unfortunately it broke, so I am currently using a bong I made out of a 1 liter Dr. Pepper bottle, a pen tube, the bowl to a metal pipe, and tape.
I would say that a bong can definitely be too big. For instance, you COULD buy a 7 foot bong that you need a partner to light for you but you would never be able to clear it, and then the smoke would just escape into the room or stay in the bong and get stale. Big chambers just make it harder to pull and all the extra space doesn't do anything good. So the ideal bong chamber is about as big as one lungful (well, two lungfuls technically). That way you will be able to take the biggest hit possible and have no smoke left in the chamber, and it won't be too hard to pull.“Anarchism stands for the liberation of the human mind from the dominion of religion; the liberation of the human body from the dominion of property; liberation from the shackles and restraint of government.”—Emma Goldman

So I would say something in the 18"-24" range would be good.

i knew this kid who had a 6foot bong and we went in his bathroom, i stood on the toilet, he lit it, and when the smoke finally reached the top (i had to inhale about 3 times before it did) he shotgunned the bowl so the bathroom just filled with smoke
