this article tells of UVBs effects on a cannabis plant... If what I read is correct, higher UVB levels dramatically increase the Thc content of plants... is this true? And how the fuck do I artificially generate that kinda light?

tanning beds have bulbs which emit UVB. metal halides also emit UVB. HPS bulbs do not.

    UVB?

I have heard of herb being grown under just black lights but i figured that was BS. Anyhow, I have learned that black lights put of UVB light, but I don't know how much the measurements of light er anything. I'm planning onusing some black lights i have during the budding process so I will definetly post about my experience when I finish up near the end of the year.

if any of u guys has any knowledge about black lights and budding let me know

ok guys, anyone here whos interested in advanced techniques, as it were...

UVB light is a key factor in thc production. plain and simple... UVB lights however, are extremely dangerous, causing cataract, skin cancer and a whole gamet of other ailments. It really really bumps up thc production though, so i plan on adding them to my grow room.

The only safety precaution I am going to take is putting the switch for these lights on the outside of my growroom. I'm gonna have to put a lock cover over it so no one flicks it while im not around...

BroDZ, well done. It would be very prudent of you to make sure that you have a way to turn the uvb lights off when in your grow room. However, i'm not sure how this would affect the flowering cycle. I would suggest then that you only inturupt the light cycle by having the uvb lights come on 20 min after your hps main lights come on, this would give you time to perform maintenaince duties.

On UV-b light and the production of it. Black lights DO NOT produce signifigant quantities of UV-b, they mostly produce UB-a (totally useless, except for looking cool). Don't take my word for it, go look here for your self

To produce UV-b you need a light designed for that purpose. HPS lights emit in the more yellow end of the spectrum, MH in the more green blue end, but neither of them will produce UV-b in any meaningful quantity, plus if you have a pane of glass between the bulb and the plant, the glass will stop 95% of all UV-b coming out anyway (as is the case with vented lights).

So, what's the answer? Well my best suggestion is reptile lights, go to the reptile store and tell them you need a UV-b light for your iguana (common request). They should set you up. One of the best bulbs, is the fluorescent reptisun 5.0 or 10.0, the higher one is better. I know that THC production is higher in UV-b but i have no idea what quantity is needed, so go the pet store. I will post some results when i have them.
