    Smoking hops

Okay, my newest bit of useful/useless info:

I was reading up on medicinal herbs, particulary those with sedative or anti-anxiety effects, and came across a reference to people actually SMOKING hops.

This isn't TOO surprising since hops is the closest family member to cannabis, they are both classified as the Cannabacae, and as you can see from the attached thumbnails they're virtually identical in how they show their sex parts.

Lupulin, produced by the female flowers of hops, is a known sedative and anti-insomnia agent.

So my question is whether anyone has actually smoked hops, or uses it medicinally, and what the effect is.

    Thanks all.

what the fuck bud breath.. do you regularly entertain yourself with your own waffle..that really is something.
but yea stinkyattic i find that stuff interesting, theres so many plants with psychoactive properties that arnt thought of. if you find they are smokable im sure seeds would be pretty cheap.

I bought some seeds already from SacredSeed in Toronto, but planting them is a bitch. They have to be winter-sown in a cold frame, and transplanted in spring. You can also buy rhizomes from commercial outfits (definitely easier!) so that's what I'm going to do. It's already known to be a cure for insomnia!

many attempts have been made over the years of grafting hops to marijuana, in the hopes of creating a 'new' plant, that works like pot, but looks differently, to avoid detection ... the grafts works fine, problem is: there is NO THC in the hops portion of the plant ... unless you're making beer, no reason to grow hops ... (I hauled truckloads of the stuff from the NYC docks, to Budweiser in St. Louis, for years) ... cool thing was the odor from the trailer, smells strongly like skunkweed, disappointed the lawmen that opened my trailer doors ... ...:smokin:

It's not THC I'm interested in, it's lupulin. Different coumpound.

People get the idea that THC is the one and only psychoactive compound, for some reason ... well it isn't.

Yes you can smoke hops. Yes I have smoked hops. Smoke them right before bedtime and you'll be happy for sleep. Good stuff.

    Talk to a brewer.

I have enjoyed a bowl of Hop hash with a local brewmaster from time to time. They told me hops have a ton of resin so it is easy to make the stuff. Of course after a few joints and a pint or 5 of beer it is likely the subtle effects were lost on me. So I noticed nothing.
