Wisdom Teeth And Smoking

Well I just got my wisdom teeth taken out... My Dentist told me no smoking... and was wondering how long you had to wait until you could smoke?... i couldn't ask him because my mouth was completely numb and full of gauze and blood.

I tried looking i've read 24 hrs, 4 days, 1 week and 2 weeks... so i don't know...

all i know is that if you do smoke when your not suppose to it is very harmful... and can get infected or dry socets.

So anyone here know or have to experience getting their wisdom teeth taken out? And how long did you wait until you smoked?

i didnt have my teeth taken out but i had surgery in my mouth with stitches and everything and i smoked the next night with out a problem.

pff man i had major oral surgery on friday and i started toking again on sunday
doesnt really matter. also i blazed the day aftyer my wisdom teeth, dont worry about it itll be fine

A lot of times the no-smoking-after-surgery prohibition really refers more to no cigarette smoking, but it's true that any smoke might make the risk of dry sockets worse because of potential drying, which could set up the conditions for infection. A good length of time to wait would probably be five to seven days, but I know that's a bummer. Think about the alternative, though, of possibly getting an infection or having to go back in for a cleanout procedure, then having to delay smoking even longer.

i had one of my wisdom teeth removed and i smoked a cigg about 5 hours afterwards. didn't push it tho, just smoked one. couldn't wait to get blazed, so i had my homie blow me some mad shotguns off of a blunt and i just inhaled it through my nose. burns like hell, but i got stupid fucking high

you will see a lot of blood...

and i called in and they said you have to wait a week until you can smoke, spit, or drink out of a straw.... but i light up for the first time in a week tonight :rasta:

really? i was ko for mine, didnt seee any blood. for my other operation i puked up like a L of blood though, not to pretty

The problem with smoking is it drys the mouth and concentrates everything so the bacteria have a feast. Drawing on a cigarette or joint also creates a partial vacume that may dislodge the clot in the hole, leaving it open to infection. Rinse your mouth often and draw gently on your joint. You'll be fine. I'm 59 and had all of my upper teeth removed a few years back. I was toking (very carefully) within 15 minutes of getting home from the dentist's (it was a long ride, though). Incidentally, cannabis increases the effects of opiates, but decreases the effect of NSAIDs (aspirin, etc). (That's not just my opinion- I have copies of the scientific study's abstracts to prove it.) Aspirin also increases bleeding, so you may wish to avoid it until you are healed.
