Ok so i started a plant early June, and now its about 1 M tall. i recently been watching to see if it flowers, and no luck so far. I live int he midwest, so i am not sure if the 12/12 is in effect. So today i did some research and saw what soem mates had told me about throwing a garbage can over the plant to induce the 12/12......

But my question is, Should I top the plant????? I am willing to cut the top off, maybe just the new nodes comming out the top?

Not sure what to do really, just looking for some advice/comments on what you think. It has like 10 - 12 branches besides the top ones that are only a few inches...

1st grow, and 1st attempt outside......

also, i took a clone off it today. Do i just throw it in water and let it sit out int he sun for a few days????? i leave it outside and everything, and a buddy has 2 clones, but havent rooted. I am asking how long does it take to root? does anything speed up root growth?

Cloning is a little bit harder than that my friend but i dont know too much about it but i do know that you can put a trash can over it for 12 hours and let it get 12 hours of light and it will start budding.

Your best bet is to just wait a little bit longer. It's about that time man, just a few more months til outdoor harvest, and the trash can technique requires way too much time and effort, and you have to be consistent with it otherwise you'll just end up with a stressed out half-flowering plant. Just let nature take its course, marijuana has been flowering all by itself outdoors for a long ass time.

And for cloning, you want to get some rooting gel or powder, a sharp cutting tool (like a sterile razor), and something to root it in (rockwool, rapid rooter plugs, or just dirt even). Basically you cut off all excess vegetation except a few leaves, and cut the clone at an angle just below a node, dip that part in cloning solution, and then put it in your medium. You probably wanna put like a clear plastic cup over it and mist it with water to keep it humid until it roots. Do a search, there is a little more to cloning than that, but thats basically the idea. If you keep humidity and temps right and use cloning solution, you can root in like 3-5 days depending on your luck.

Thanks fellaz, I just went and took the garbage can off and notice a difference in color, its pretty bad.... i think i like the garbage can idea,...... BUT the sun hasnt been over my house yet and its 8 am.... it sure as hell wont be around in the west at 8pm..... so i think i will watch it flower naturally....

any more comemnts on cloning like a step by step procedure would be helpful, and not jsut for me..

Don't listen to that. You don't want to starve your plant of CO2 by suffocation. Thought that doesn't mean you still can't force flower

i thought plants dont use co2 in there dark period.......
im a newbiw so i wouldnt really know but from everything i read it seems this is commen practice and works fine if you want to put in the effort

Even if they don't used CO2, I have transported plants from A to B in Black Poly bags once and that wilted them, I can only think it was suffocation. Plants breathe all the time don't they?

honestly i really dont know, i think the roots need oxegen mostly in the dark period. i can see how putting a blag bag over them and leaving them in the sun can harm them though im sure they would get pretty damn hot like that prolly want to move them into the shade and then put a bag on em but like i said i have no experience im just post whoring lol

The two cycles of photosynthesis each use air-borne gases. One uses O2 and the other uses CO2.
The net is that the plant uses more CO2 than O2 and has a net INTAKE of CO2 and net OUPUT of O2. But you can still suffocate the plant or at least retard its growth by depriving it of either of those.

Yeah, some plants absorb co2 they use during their dark cycle, but marijuana is not one of them. It is classified as a c3 plant meaning it uses the co2 it gathers during the light cycle and does not need a rest (dark) period. So sayeth Ed Rosenthal
