Just bought a 1000 watt hps and an 8 plant aeroponic setup...

well its actually going to be in A cab sorta like pictured above. I already bought the lamp, hydro unit, and carbon scrub so I am going to use the stuff. The ballast will be outside the cab and there will be 2 fans ( one on the light, one on the plants), as well as an exhaust fan on the carbon scrub so air will be moving.

Okay, I think I have the cooling figured out. I bought two 6 blade metal halide cooling fans. Each one has six 3 inch fans and pushes 46 cfm. They will be attatched on either side of the hood pointing at the lamp.

Dude do you any idea how many fans you will need to cool your cab?? A
1000w is a monster and puts of way to much heat. I had one in a closet that was 5 feet long and 3 feet deep. The light was in a cool tube and i had direct AC in the closet. My temps were still very high and the closet door could never be shut. Not to mention my elcetric bill went up about $120 a month...to me it is not worth it....good luck tho

OK partner, I am just giving you a back up plan that you want to set a few chips aside to try to implement in the event that your plan fells and even with this it may not help. First of all if you have never used a 1K then you can not comprehend the heat you are dealing with, try 300 degrees plus, go and open your oven, put it on 300d and see if those fans pointed in the oven could expel the heat quick enough to leave a plant on the oven Dore for 12 hours and trying to keep it at under 85D . This is what it is kind of like using a 1K bulb.
Well to the plan, I have a 1K bulb in a area 47in by 38 in and keep my temps at about 80/81D with lights on with the MH and expect it to go up with the HPS a little. I have an air cooled hood with a vent on the very top and my 172 CFM Vortex fan sucking hot air out of the hood into my scrubber. On the intake vent on the side of the hood I have a 90 CFM Dayton fart fan pushing air in to the hood to help the Vortex. I have another 90 CFM fart fan acting as a active intake on the bottom left hand corner and a 280 Squirrel cage fan bring in cool air in from out side, temps get around 45/50D at night hear. The Squirrel cage fan may have more CFM than the vortex, but can't come close to the air the vortex actually moves. I also have a 10 in honey well fan in the cab for air circulation. With this set up I can lay that hood on my chest if I wanted to, LOL. Sometimes I just put my hand on the glass and wonder how long it will take to fill some discomfort. I could put that thing about 6 in from my plants, but I would loose some of the foot print and run the risk of bleaching the tops of my plants so I keep it at about 12 in from the tops of the taller plants.
I know pics, pics, pics. Well internet got kicked back to dial up until the 8th of Sep and I need to have my wife get a cord for the diggy kam.
I am really liking my set up so far and am hoping to share it with everybody soon. I know that I have got about 90% of my ideas from these boards and enjoy giving back. With my set up now, it would seem impossible to some, but with some persistence and a few extra bucks it has paid off. Oh, I can't forget a awesome super wife who is my soldier, comrade, best friend and lover for life.

It's only a money pit until you get it working; after that it's just electric bills and consumeables. But yeah, I totally know how you feel. Initially, I thought I could get it all done for like $700 or $800 (I wish!), but it went beyond that, and kept going, until I thought I'd never be done spending money on it. It's worth it in the end though!

Ha Ha, I thought the same, now I look at it like construction or remodeling you need to add up your estamated cost and then times it by 2 and 1/2 for a good idea of the real cost.
I think that one quote that I think about the most when building a cab is Zandors "Go cheap Grow cheap"
I do understand that we all don't have the bucks to spend but when your goal is to do mor than a QP every 2 months then you are going to have to put a few chips into the bucket.

Oh right I thik I have the cooling issues figured out... again haha. So I bought a cool tub and a 6in. 250 cfm inline fan. I am going to run hose on each end of the cool tube as an intake and exhaust to the outside of the cab. I also have those two $70 fish tank fans to facillitate in cooling the tube. The only thing I haven't bought is the cab and a couple of various other odds and ends. Here is the price list so far:
    Aero Setup: $280
    1000w hps: $250
    Carbon scrubber w/ exhaust: $80
    6 FAN BLADES X2: $140
    250 cfm fan:$55
    Cooltube: $100
Total: $905 and I still need to sped about $200
