Recommended Reading

If you're ever stuck for a decent book to read, then check these titles out:

The Riftwar Saga, is comprised of about 12books, beginning with MAGICIAN. They are written by RAYMOND E FIEST, and are of the same vien as LOTR - but better,imo.

JOHN GRISHAM is a decent author, although all of his books develop a pattern to them after a while. THE FIRM and THE CLIENT, rank as his best efforts imo - but all of his books are good.

Most of you have heard of DOUGLAS ADAMS (rip), but how many have read the DIRK GENTLY'S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY? very funny, and another trilogy, I think..

Just a few to get you going...any suggestions?

Just finished a great book. Well finished it in a single day last week. It's writen by a Rolling Stone writer who was with the Marine First Recon Battalion during the invasion of Iraq. If you really want to get a true acount of what infantry life is like and what really went down over there then this is definately recommended reading. It's called Generation Kill

I'm certainly no hard core reader, mainly for the reason that a book has to grab me within the first 10 pages or so or I give up on it, but there have been a few beuts I've read. Some most readers will have read, but a couple lesser known ones as well. Trying to be in somewhat of an order:

"The Eye's of the Dragon"(by far THE best book I've ever read. There is plent of reason Stephen King is consistantly a best seller and it's not just the name)
"Ender's Game"(check it out. Not well known but VERY good)
"Firestarter"(movie's cool too)
"Runelords"(a fantasy type book. I think it's a series, but it's the only one I've read and if there's more I'd like to read them because it was a good read)
"Needful Things"(Probably half the books I've read are Stephen King. A good writer indeed)
"Cat and Mouse"(James Patterson, a pretty good writer, but Spider or whatever it was called was dumb. Read about 5 or so of his books and all were good but that one)
"Jurassic Park"(Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark, all the Dinosaurs are running wild. Someone let T-Rex out of his pen. I admit it's kinda eery, but this proves my chaos theory and I don't think I'll be coming back againnnnnn. OHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!...)
"The Hatchet"(It's like a kid's book, but I remember liking it a lot when I was in Middle School and I'm sure I still would if I read it again)

Well I guess those are my top choices, I've probably forgotten one or two though. I'll be sure to check out the ones I haven't heard of y'all mentioned though.

I've got to recommend Dan Brown's Angels and Demons. Also, Carl Hiaasen is a personal favorite. Very, very funny. Check out, Stormy Weather, Skin Tight, Tourist Season... Of course Stephen King is great, but I really prefer his Four Seasons, "Apt Pupil" is a damn good story and "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" is a hell of a lot better on paper than on screen. Of course, the collection includes "The Body" and "The Breathing Method" as well, so you get a kind of a four for one deal... Perfect for four quick reads.

you guys should scope out the Dark Tower series that Stephen King is till writing... it kinda ties together all of his works in a wierd way.

I've got to recommend Dan Brown's Angels and Demons.

Fuckin' A. I just finished reading it, I'm on the Da Vinci Code now. These are two great books that really make you question why things are represented the way they are, and what your local statues, posters, ads, and art in general really mean. Great religious commentary too.

if you guys like fantasy I really have to recommend the Gotrek and Felix series from Black Library. Those books have superb writing and the story never becomes uninteresting.

if you want to read a book from a nice movie (witch is actually the novel turned into a movie) pick up Red Dragon! Red Dragon is an awesome tale... really makes ya think about nutjobs that might live near you LoL
