It was recently reported on CNN that scientific studies have proven that marijuana DOES NOT contribute to the risk of lung cancer.

...BUT ...some people have panic and anxiety attacks brought on by smoking too much pot and panic/anxiety attacks have killed people.

It's impossible to die directly from cannabis use. The amount you would need to die is way too high (no pun intended) you would pass out way before you could reach that level. If eating it your body would just send it right back up again.
