Anyhow Shadowgate, actually this is the first thread I have read on this topic. Good topic.

Another test is also to take a look at the ash. Is is irridescent, hard as a rock ? This could indicate a lace or heavy load of ferts.
How does it taste if you pop a tiny nug in your mouth?
Take a magnified look at it. Detergents and most chemicals will crystalize when they are dried. If you notice a load of crystals not resembling individual trichomes then there are "unknown independant variables" present.
These will most likely dissolve on contact with water while trichomes will not. Isolate some and see how they react to water.

Become familliar with how a good quality bud will look taste and smell and make it a habit to check out your weed if from a new source.
And dont buy from questionable sources.
