Hey All,

This is probably a really stupid quesion but... Why do all contactors seem to have 2 plugs, am I really going to have to change my single mains power socket to a double to accomadate a contactor??

im not sure what you mean by contactor,


if you mean the ballast, somtimes, like mine they have two plugs, one is the power supply for the light, and the other is for pluging into a timer, which is then plugged into a DIFFERENT wall socket to the power supply, this is a safety feature that prevents you overloading the timer, potentially breaking it and ruining your plants.

if you didnt mean any of the above, im not sure what you mean!

you can piggy back the plugs because the timer plug is just a switch to let the ballast know when to power-up, but it might make the timer un-reliable.

i solved this by running a 4 socket extension from another wall plug.
the light power has its own wall socket, and two fans and the timer are fed from the extension cable.

Do you mean that it only has two prongs like this?

without the little round one in the center?

If so, it means that it has no ground. You may want to get "a contact" that's grounded. If not, I'm not sure what you mean either
